I think I get it. Game 1 was to get the core of the team to be able to handle QLD's attack and build decent defensive combinations. The players who are missing here not through injury (Young, King) are defensive players at best and in positions that defensive combinations are unnecessary. The left side actually looks better now (because of Hayne being there, not because Jennings is gone). It's a fit team and if Gallen can get through 60 minutes at front row, having one interchange prop won't matter.
So basically I think the idea is;
a) The boys have learned to handle what QLD throw at them.
b) Time to throw everything back at them.
God help the team if Gallen gets injured though. This tactic would play out better if Merrin wasn't there though. Strange selection. There are multiple players that would be better than him. It's a very risky balance. A very Ricky Stuart side though. I like the idea somewhat. I think Gallen in the backrow and Scott out of the team with Galloway, Learoyd-Lahrs or another 40 minute big body would have been safer and equally effective option, but oh well.
As happy with it as I could be since there are no Tigers.
