The Bears go for another short kick off, this time through the air and recover the ball after picking out the stumpy Mataele.

The shift the ball to their right edge and looked to have scored but the touch judge raises his flag!

Wenty slice the Bears open down their left this time around as Ben Jones beats some lazy defenders.

He hasn't got the legs to beat Morgan to the line and finds Fritz in support who in turn has to look pass but loses the ball as he does so...

North Sydney scrum 10m out from their goal line.

Not much doing for the Bears during this set but they do finish it with a nice kick that rolls towards the Wenty goal line.

Fritz secures the ball but is nearly driven back in goals.

Foran has had a blinder today.

Foran has had the ball on a string today and yet again drills it into the corner of the Bear's in goals. Morgan has a crack at it but spills it and thus it comes back for a line drop out.

Gorman nearly cuts through midway through the set before a Rawalui offload takes Wenty near the goal line.

Play breaks down after the ball is lost by Wenty at dummy half. Maliota recovers the pill and fends a North Sydney player in the face and cops a penalty as a result.

Goodall nearly snatches an intercept around halfway but just can't reel the ball in after the initial bat up.

North Sydney scrum 5m into Wenty's half.

The Bears get one last crack at scoring but fire a long ball forwards as the siren rings out.

Moeroa played the full eighty minutes, scored a try and was generally pretty damn awesome.

He was at the head of the opening kick off chase and absolutely flattened the North Sydney bookend in typical Tepai fashion which had myself and IBB&G both chuckling and marvelling at him in the same breath.

Ripper of a debut when all is said and done.

I know we are unlikely to rush him but I reckon he would do exactly the same thing if he played against the Warriors in the NRL next week.

Couldn't agree more. I have watched him about 5 times and the technique that he has in defence is outstanding. Once he gets into first grade he will never see lower grades again.

Moeroa has been playing under 20s so he's either in the top 25 already or he's on a very low amount (no more than about $20k) to fit under the NYC salary cap.

So it will be easy to play him in first grade. He's either already top 25 or he will be easy to fit under the second tier cap. The exception is if he has recently signed an extension that upgrades him this year so that he no longer fits under the NYC cap. In that case he could be on almost $80k which would make it harder to fit him under the second tier cap. But with Loko gone someone will move into the top 25 and if he's played first grade this year then his space will free up under the second tier cap.

Obviously being only 19 this year Moeroa is almost certainly contracted for next year as well, meaning there is less reason for us to offer an upgrade this year (we can upgrade him next year if he won't re-sign without it). Either way we'll know for sure if he plays NYC again this year.
