Newtown make another half break but Terepo is in the right palce at the right time to steal the offload.

Wenty counter attack immediately as they quickly shift the ball to Radradra. He flies down the left sideline, beating his opposite number initially before he comes back for a second effort. He pulls Radradra down but he bounces back up to his feet legally, looking to keep going. He is hit by more cover defence and ends up losing the ball, trying to find support.

Newtown complete their set by drilling the ball into touch, 10m out from Wenty's line as the clock trickles down to full time. There are 3min left on the clock before the ref blows time off as a trainer attends to McKinnon, who was left behind near halfway.

He is escorted off by a trainer as Maliota comes on for him.

Wenty scrum 10m out from their line.

I retract my earlier comments about Edwards thinking he is halfback.

He IS now playing halfback and tormenting Newtown...albeit too little too late.

After shrugging off three of four defenders near halfway to put Parata into a half gap, he backs it up next play by juking some rush defence and flicking the ball to Peni Terepo to put the big man over.

The conversion is good.

Wenty trail Newtown 26-40/

There is some tongue-in-cheek play from both teams as Wenty chip the ball but can not regather the ball before Newtown do exactly the same thing in the same play.

The ball rolls dead from Newtown's kick as the full time siren rings out.

Well there you go ladies, gentlemen and assorted merkins. Wenty bow out of the hunt in the NSW Cup 2013 season after they were rocked in the first half by a willing Newtown outfit.

It is a dissapointing result, amplified by the fact that Wenty came out in the second half and played to their potential...where they started to belt the Jets all over the park.

While it means little to the result today, Wenty have a good platform to build on for 2014.

And on that note, I will bow out from updates for 2013. It has been great fun keeping everyone as informed as I can and I look forward to doing the same in 2014.

Have a great night everyone!

Thanks Forty. Great effort this year with your updates. I look forward to seeing you at the next Ringrose game.

:thumn Keep well champ!

I think I read a post somewhere around here from you about going under the knife for your knee, if that is the case hope it goes/went well...I've been fortunate to dodge one but knee injuries are awful.

Have you seen that much of him, Pou? It would of been nice to have him in the team next year but you can't fault him if he's gone for a better shot.

are mounties still connected to Canberra?

They are but the relationship is all one way. So Mounties are compelled to field Canberra's 'reserve graders' in its NSW Cup team, but Mounties' players do not belong to Canberra.

Players contracted to NSW Cup clubs (such as Mounties and Wentworthville) are free to sign with any NRL club that offers them a contract. I believe those contracts have release clauses as standard.

I'd say that Mataele left Wenty because of Parramatta's massive NRL squad. Wenty's NSW Cup team would have been full of Eels contracted players most weeks, leaving him stuck in the RM Cup.

I spoke to Brett cook a few weeks back and he was still trying to entice patty to stay but he had a concern that the parra boys had the jump ahead of him and I guess as pou rightly pointed out, the reason he went to Mounties, it's a shame because he performed better than some of those full time squad members and would of been better worthwhile than Jerome and Gilbert... But anyway, good luck to him.
