Kickoff is imminent as both teams leave the field for their final preperations.

Team Changes
Danny Howard drops off the five man bench
Dom Reardon IS playing, Herekutuktutuku was only warming up as a precaution.

Wenty are receiving the ball from the kickoff. They will be running towards the entrance-end of Leichardt Oval.

The ball bounces off the kickoff and there is a nasty roll that trickles past Mullaney. Despite the poor start to the game Wenty make good mertres down their left edge before Fluke finds touch 12m out from Newtown's line.

Good opening set.

Went concede the first penalty of the game as they fail to make the 10m midway through Newtown's first set.

Time off for a ball-change.

Play resumes 10 metres into Wenty;s half.

Wenty defend well on their first goal line set, comfortably repelling the Jets but Mullaney was collected by an ally on the last and is receiving treatment.

He is fine and Wenty complete their set with a Parata kick on our 40m line that is eaten up by Wells.

On the back of that poor kick Newtown are able to hammer their way back into our red zone.

Ryley Jacks chips it back towards the posts where a flying Henare Wells easily out leaps Mullaney and scores next to the posts.

The conversion is good.

Newtown lead Wenty 6-0

Terrible mistake from Wenty on the kickoff as the ref brings play back for a penalty on halfway due to offside chasers.

Newtown find touch on Wenty's 40m line.

This time Ryley Jacks does it all himself. He receives the ball down our right-edge and feints a long ball to a sweeper. As the defence misreads and continues to slide to cuts back and slips through some weaks grabs and scores under the posts.

The conversion is easily taken.

Newtown lead Wenty 12-0

All the momentum is with Newtown at the moment...largely due to Wenty giving away soft penalties.

Easy metres up for grabs for Newtown this set as they march their way 10m into our half.

Newtown hoist it high on the last but they lose the ball in the contest.

Turnover on Wenty's 20m line.

There is some enterprising play from Wenty now as Mullaney links up with Cecil MacKenzie. He beats his man before cutting back infield and linking up with support to start a movement to our right-edge.

Newtown mark up well and kill the play. On the next play, Wenty come back to the left as Terepo winds up, He finds Parata with a ball before the line but he loses control of it and puts it to boot in desperation.

The Jets come away with the ball and make a half break but Wenty pull the runner down.

Next set Wenty get their first penalty and restart their set in Newtown's half. We attack down our left-edge via C.MacKenzie but he is driven into touch, however play comes back for another penalty as he was hit high.

Despite the glut of possession, Wenty undo their advantage as from the restart we lose the ball in contact.

NEwtown scrum 12m out from their line.

Brad Barrett nearly goes through our left-edge degence near halfway but we just pull him down. The charge gives Newtown plenty of time and space for their next few plays and they end up bombing our right-edge where a flying Chris Terepo (sp?) for Newtown outleaps our man and plants the ball out wide.

The conversion is waved away.

Newtown lead Wenty 16-0

Wenty give away another penalty as they are pinged again for infringing on the 10m.

Newtown find touch just short of halfway.

Newtown bomb a sure try as Henare Wells sweeps to our right-edge and looks to have put Oldfield into a gaping hole but he drops it cold.

Wenty ruck it out but there is massive pressure on the Fluke on the last. He does well to step inside the first man and get a solid kick away before he is nailed by a second defender.

Newtown nearly deliver a fatal riposte as Henare Well scorches from a tiny gap. He is roped in before he can score and ultimately Wenty are able to drive the ball into touch.

Wenty scrum 10m out from their line.

Junior Paulo is on and looks to be playing as the right-edge second rower. His first play isn't a memorable one as he looks to put his winger into space with a cutout ball but it falls short and the fiendish bounce rolls into touch.

Newtown scrum on Wenty's 40m line.

The Jets hammer our goal line but get nospam29 after nearly going over near the posts. Wenty repel multiple tacks around the same spot and finally force an error.

Massive pressure on Fluke's kick yet again but he is able to get it away.

Parata leads a decent kick chase and pull Wells down before he can do any damage.

Newtown focus their attack down our left-edge for a change and it reaps immediate rewards as Wenty get caught sliding too early once more and the same man as before in Ryley Jacks punishes them for it as he scores next to the posts again.

The conversion is good.

Newtown lead Wenty 22-0

Another massive set for Newtown as they have complete control of the ruck. They hoist a well-weighted bomb on the last they falls a metre short of our goal line but Mullaney takes it perfectly and steals 20m to go with the catch.

The weight of possession is killing Wenty so far in this game but they pick up a relieving penalty to take them 10m into Newtown's half.

Fluke over runs his men out wide and has to cut back to Mullaney who nearly gets Terepo over. He is agonisingly close but is ruled to be held up. Next play, McKinnon tries to crash over from dummy half but he is also held out.

The next play is the last and Fluke tries to stab a kick behind the line but it is sharply taken by Jacks who sets off downfield. Junior Paulo gives chase but he is outpaced, however MacKenzie (I think) blazes over from the other side of the field to stop the play.

It only keeps Newtown out for the one tackle as they are direly short on their left-edge where Newtown spread the ball and score.

The conversion is good.

Newtown lead Wenty 28-0

Radradra spills the ball from a Newtown bomb. He received some questionable contact in the attempt and the ball looked to go backwards but Newtown are awarded the scrum on our 10m line.

After doing nothing for their entire set, Newtown end up running it on the last and somehow create numbers with a simple hands play down our right-edge which sees Michael Oldfield cross out wide.

All that early territory and possession looks to have broken Wenty's back...it would take something herculean to come back from this point.

The conversion is nailed from out wide.

Newtown lead Wenty 34-0

Newtown clocked off on the kickoff. The ball sails loooong and they all ball watch but it pulls up inches from the dead ball line and bounces over it for a line drop out. It anyone took the ball with their foot over the line that was a penalty.

Wenty finally click into gear as there is a fantastic charge from Edwards (I think?) who links up with Mullaney in support. Jake does all he can to score but he is held up by bigger bodies and Wenty give away a penalty for what I believe was a driver.

Story of the day for Wenty.

As the half time buzzer sounds, Newtown spread it to their left. They catch Wenty short yet again, despite the lack of second-man play and Oldfield breaks through the line. He links up with Chris Terepo who is covered by a sweeping Mullaney, however he rolls in a perfect grubber for Oldfield that goes 5m before kicking up perfectly for him and he crosses again.

The conversion is hit sweetly for another two points.

Half Time

Newtown lead Wenty 40-0

That was brutal.
