I remember watching a tv edition of Jaws when I was a teen. They called it the ABC network cut. That scene with quite a few others were included. One scene that comes to mind is the extended scene of all the yahoo’s when they caught the Tiger Shark. It was pure bedlam. Shots going off left right and centre, boats colliding and the three rednecks who ultimately said they caught it in the main cut Were full of shit.
Its funny how sometimes when they show movies on TV they show some of the extra stuff and deleted scenes.
I recall when they first showed Earthquake here on TV they cut some of the theatrical scenes out and also added a new sub plot.
Apparently when it was going to air in the US for the first time on TV they wanted to air it over 2 nights as an event movie presentation, when Universal went through the deleted footage they didn't have a lot that would have fitted the extended time slot , there was basically only a bit at the start that showed Stuart, Remy and the doctor that was deleted and it was dealing with abortion so it was deemed not satisfactory for the time slot, so apart from one brief extra scene with Victoria Principal waiting for a bus and a prologue at the start before the opening credits, Universal had nothing so they filmed extra scenes including extra footage of the looters who got shot dead, extra scenes of Victoria Principal being stalked by the psychotic national guardsman and a whole sub plot about a couple on a plane who the husband was going to work at the engineering company Charlton Heston worked at. It was an absolute mess and the later filmed shots didn't match up to the quality of the original picture.
I remember Airport 77 when it first aired here also had extra scenes but at least they were deleted scenes and at least matched the context of the movie.
Two Minute Warning was another movie they messed with, i think they shot extra scenes later on for the TV release and it ended up being a totally different movie, it was that long ago that i saw it so my memory is very vague on that.
