Mary was coach when he re-signed.
His defence ends there. If his manager spoke out of line about a new coach coming then that's on his manager.

Like you I want Mary gone. Heck, Green / Pay / Kearny and soon Seibold are all on the scrapheap, but I am tiring of young players inking deals and then wishing to walk out on them.

By the way, there is no guarantee that a new coach will assure him of a spot, as we have no idea of who that may be.

He should get to work, earn his spot, keep it and stop whining.
I don't disagree with any of this

Mary is known for promising and not delivering

His done it before

Im all for giving him a little more time.
Problem is, either he or his manager make it impossible to offer such with the constant rambling about travel.

As @Crush said, he signed an extension knowing full well the lay of the land, with both coach and travel.

If he is hell bent on leaving, then give another kid a go, and let him leave.

The travel / JV issue was around before the lad was born. I know we are down at the minute, but taking a stand with disgruntled players would do the team more good than harm.
Agree let him go if that is what he wants and his heart is not in it .... Look at the other bloke Dufty they told him to look elsewhere , that they would let him go .... Don't know if he had anywhere to go , but the kid knuckled down and proved that he was worthy ..... So as you say if Saab wants to have a dummy spit and he is not going to give his all then bye bye .....

Same with Zac. he also suffered under mary, but stuck to it.
I want players what want to have a dig and prove themselves. Like i said 10 times, he knew about the travel and the coach. ... . Bye bye is correct.

Yes I agree. Mary has promised Dufty fullback, then reneged, He then promised Zac the FB spot and also changed his mind.

I get your point.

The 2 guys in question stayed and battled for their spots. Its seems young Saab aint willing to do so. Even allowing for Mary's crap.

Well said.

x2, as Wittenberg analogy explains, the kid can catch, can be a point of difference in the aerial contests, is capable of bending the line when bringing the ball back (I remember seeing that in the nines) has shown previously (the interchange a few weeks back between him and Lomax) evidence he has deft hands (something that some of our incumbents don’t possess) and game awareness to be in the right spot but has noticeable flaws defensively and appears to float in and out and at times very uncommitted and apprehensive. If he is staying I’d definitely persist if not no chance would I be using him again in FG. Only a fool would develop a player leaving ahead of our other youngsters.

If he wants to go then let him ... over these rookies who barely can spell NRL and expect everything is fast tracked for them.

Dufty is too small to be a first-grade fullback. Saab has scored 4 tries out of his 6 first grade stints. Yes, he still makes mistakes but to me seems to be getting better each game; just what we want in 2020. He may very well be a good wing for season 2021.

Yep. Agree with the thinking here. He has potential for sure, but hasn’t shown too much in his limited appearances.

Yes McGregor can’t coach, but he can’t be blamed for some pretty non inspiring performances. Surely, if the talent is there, he can show us something despite the coach. Still haven’t seen too much?

Dufty, Aitken and Lomax have all suffered under McGregor too, but all have shown pretty fair form in recent weeks.

No reason why Saab can’t as well. JP keeps giving him chances to shine but he hasn’t really seized his chances. Surely he should be keeping JP out of the side by now.

I agree and not to be sticking up for Mary or anything but maybe in some regards the fact it is perceived he’s not good with the younger players is more the fact that he’s rightly making them bide their time and earn their spot like once all players had to. Now they just have a sook and change clubs when they are not starting every game and on 500k at age 20. This doesn’t excuse his rubbish bench rotation, game plans, selections and lack of pulling power but in that one regard I agree with him.

If we were talking about a 25-year-old fringe first-grader, I'd agree with you. Sometimes the young talented players can be swayed in a way that is not in their best interest. Saab is very young and still under contract to the end of 2022. He may end up being one of the better wingers in the comp.

I'd say it is in his best interest to stay, especially if we end up with a new coach prior to his contract ending.

Agree.
The best advice for him at the moment would be head down bum up.

You are correct about giving a young talent more time.
he doesn't want more time. It really is that simple.

As has been posted here many times, Zac / Dufty / are also young talents, who have signed on for the future. They have decided to FIGHT for their spot.

He hasn't.

For the sake of morale, he needs to be moved on. If he becomes a superstar, so be it.

Not doing to bad for being to small to play fullback ...... Without him we have no attack or ballplayer..... how big was slater or the guy playing there now ? With a good coach Dufty will be a match winner.......

I was a massive critic, but he has sold me.
He needs to improve his defence, and kick returns but at least he has fought for his spot. Right now he is our FB by some margin. Good on him.

If Saab stays and goes well we might end up with a backline of:
1. Ramsey
2. Ravalawa
3. Lomax
4. Williame / Feagai
5. Saab

6. Dufty
7. Clune

Not an overly expensive backline and a backline full players with speed and attacking flair. Flanagan - like Mage is the coach to bring them through with good defensive skills.

I don'think Saab will be with us next year and I will add maybe no Dufty after 2021. I think our future team backline may look something like:

1. Schiller
2. Ramsey
3. Lomax
4. Feagai (Mat) or SSE
5. Rava
6. Sullivan
7. Clune
