You contradict yourself a bit there i think.

Not at all.

the 8 players you have listed as over 30 are all past their best (maybe Fui is still close) but for the rest it is not even close.

Are you basing their form off one bad season by the whole club? Wait and see how they go next season.

The guys under 25 are far and away our best.

Only two of them are, and one - Mannah - is only slightly better than Moimoi and Poore, while the other will go down as one of the greatest players in history. And he has weaknesses that will be fixed with experience.

The other 3 under 25s have massive weaknesses in their games. The over 30s have no weaknesses that they didn't always have anyway, other than increased proneness to injury.

As for Orford - just because your old doesn't mean you are a good leader or good for developing other halves.

No it doesn't but in Orford's case he captained a premiership-winning side.

some blokes aren't good mentors, some people don't command respect from their peers. Orford used to be having constant arguments on the field with the likes of Monaghan and Watmough, so one can only imagine what happened off the field.

I imagine the team was very tight-nit; they made two grand finals in a row, winning one of them. They certainly didn't have the best team.

Robson used to be Orford's backup at Manly and Robson wasn't miraculously turned into a superstar just by Orford's presence!

Mate that's not how mentoring works. In fact, can you tell me of any young half who was "turned into a superstar" just by a senior half's presence?

You know how that's not how it works so yout argument is just bullsh*t - reductio ad absurdum bullsh*t.

Robson was good enough to get to a grand final, and who knows how useless he would've been without Orford? Orford might've been the sole reason Robson was able to get a contract with another club.

If you sign a beat up, washed up Orford what are your chances of winning the comp in 2011?

Better than your chances without him.

1%, if you use that money to lock up a few 20-22 year olds what are your chances of winning the comp? still about 1% but at least you now have a future...

How do you lock them up for the future with next year's money? Their salaries still come out of future salary caps - next year's cap only applies to next year which is why signing Orford won't stop us signing anybody else because there's nobody else on the market.

Cameron Bruest has been asked to train with the NRL squad... Maybe to learn from Orford? Or as an understudy to Murray?

Breust excited about signing deal with Parramatta

WAGGA has long had ties to NRL club Parramatta, and as of this week can boast yet another Eel from the City of Good Sports.

Former Kangaroos star Cameron Breust could be playing in the NRL as early as next season after signing a two-year deal with Parramatta.

Breust was snatched up by the Sydney club after impressing selectors playing in the top Canberra competition, as well as starring in the University State of Origin tournament.

The 19-year-old playmaker finished off a stellar season playing with Gungahlin Bulls this year, having moved to Canberra to study marketing at university.

Breust was back home in Wagga yesterday preparing for his big move to Sydney this weekend and was bursting to talk about the massive signing.

"It's definitely very exciting," Breust said yesterday.

"I was all set to go up to Sydney on the 8th of November but then I got a phone call and they asked me to go up a bit earlier.

"These sort of opportunities don't come that easily, so it's good to get this chance now.

"I'm just excited about playing in the NRL."

Breust was recognised as a sporting talent at a young age, and stood out for the Roos at a junior level before making the move to Canberra after finishing school.

He was initially picked up by Parramatta to play in the Toyota Cup, but last week got the call to ask if he would like to train with the NRL squad.

"It's pretty exciting to be training with the NRL team," he said.

Breust is all set to move up to Sydney this weekend, having already been lined up with an apartment by the Eels.

"Yeah I'm looking forward to moving up there, it's a bit of a change," he said.

"The apartment I'm in is right across from the Leagues Club, and I'll be living with another guy from Queensland who I've never met."

Breust has already been up to Sydney for a fitness test, and will soon be training full time with the Eels squad.

The young star could be seen playing alongside fellow Wagga export Daniel Mortimer by next NRL season.

Cameron Bruest was coached by two Hay Magpies, Simon Woolford and Jason Croker at Gungahlin Bulls last season and they both had good wraps on him. We at the Raiders were disappointed to see him move onto the Eels as we have had him in our development squad for a number of years.
Cameron has Sam Williams, Michael Picker and Josh McCrone in front of him..so good luck to him at Parra.

We at the raiders.......f**k off!

I hope we get Orford. Even if he doesn't kill it, he'll at least provide something we've been lacking in our halves- A KICKING GAME.

On a side note, does anyone else feel really weird wanting an ex-manly player to play for our club? I feel dirty even thinking about it, but desperate times call for desperate measures. :sarcasm:

They've got enough ex-Eels that I can barely tell the difference these days.

That's cool news about Bruest......strange though, if he has been asked to train with our NRL squad doesn't that mean he is technically part of the top 25??

No it just means he's doing some training in the off season with the NRL squad. I think you'll find a lot of players from outside our top 25 will be given the same oppurtunity over the course of the pre season.

No. Filinga, OHanlana, Pele, Allgood, Mortimer and Kelly all trained with the NRL side over the past two years in the pre-season (plus many more) without being in the top 25. the top 25 are simply the top 25 paid players at the club and they must each earn a minimum 55K/year. Most teams have a 30-35 man squad training, and these are guys that might play in the NRL the next year or are being looked at for the future.

mate, Filiga never trained with the fulltime squad..

the only Wenty players that have in the last 12 months have been Blackburn, Tim Mortimer and Hendy while Sio has been in the NYC squad.

Mate last year I remember seeing him on the news running around with the parramatta boys. Most of the second teir players train in the offseason with the NRL squad so i'm sure its happened before.

mate he didn't train with the ft squad at all he may do this off season but didn't last season.

The second tier squad a Parramatta contracted players not Wentworthville players they start of training with the fulltime squad and then a sellect few train with Wenty.

Footnote: Karl Filiga was not a 2nd tier player he was a Wenty contracted player.

there may of been occasions where both the wenty and Parra ft squads train together..but he certainly hasn't trained exclusively with the ft squad.

May have been that then, i don't know the dynamics as much as you. Sorry :D

Point being, many players train with the NRL side and it doesnt mean they are in the top 25 :D
