Can't stand the Lance Armstrong comparisons. Have a look at how many winners of the Tour de France have been stripped of their title over the past 15 years.

How many winners of the NRL comp have been stripped of their title due to elaborate team doping scandals involving EPO, blood transfussions etc.

Can anyone tell me exactly what the Sharks players have done wrong please. Just want the facts thanks.

There aren't any yet. They are under investigation.

From an article from Kate Lundy:

"ASADA, who?s role is to protect the integrity of sport through doping, conducted more that 7,000 tests and initiated 28 anti-doping investigations in 2011-12. The Government knows as a result of yesterday?s announcement the number of investigations will increase substantially.
I have already acted to address this. During the week I introduced legislation to amend the ASADA?s legislation to increase ASADA?s investigative powers and double the funding for investigations."

Increased power and funding. With ASADA that would mean 14,000 tests with f**k all results. Why bother?

It could allow them to establish a biological database of every player from age of like 17 and use that to follow trends. Its going to be the most effective way of stopping doping.

They would only f**k it up.

I don't like the suspicion and onus being on every player, from the age of 17.

Tell the politicians or ASADA officials suggesting this that every phone call they make and every email they send will be recorded and monitored, just so we can be sure that they are not corrupt. Corruption is a very important issue, I am sure they would understand. And to be sure we should start this monitoring when they start their careers. It is important, I am sure they would agree.

ASADA’s policy is to not talk or speculate about individuals during the process as Australian legislation ensures that an athlete or support person has their privacy protected while a matter is being reviewed.

So much of this is just flat out paper speculation. ASADA will not speculate at all so the papers are going to use rumour and probably just make stuff up.

It is like when Reni Maitua was caught. Remember the press conference weeks beforehand, and the slow leaks of information, with further press conferences by ex-ASADA employees.

Same as when Wendall was caught. No need for testing, just run a scare campaign/investigation and do the whole thing based on word of mouth and hearsay.

Or maybe not.

Biological passports are used in a limited way now. like there are certain markers that will get a player suspended rather than a specific drug failure.

Like if a player sent back a lopsided testosterone over epitestosterone result. That would get them suspended. Its not a specific drug failure but a biological marker that drug use has taken place.

I'm not a huge fan of cracking down on people's liberty but drugs in sport is an issue of player safety. Not the specific athlete in question I couldn't give a f**k if someone wants to roid their face off. I certainly don't give a shit what recreational drugs players do. Not my business but its a question of safety for the players who are essentially forced to use potentially dangerous substances just to succeed.

It is a question of safety as well. And organised crime - another allegation that seems to have dropped off.

You could use that safety excuse to have a blood passport for every citizen. After all, we would all be safer if there were less drugged people around, whether they are at work or not.

Blame the media for the slow leak. I'm sure if it was up to ASADA they would do their job as quietly as possible.

i love my Sharks and always will , but I have to say it as it is.

Waiting for Cronulla to win a premiership has gone from leaving a porch light on for Harold Holt to sitting in a train wreck at Granville station on Groundhog Day

I am shattered.

All the trolls on this site can carry on with their gutless attacks etc, but spare a thought for people just like you, who love their footy team. There is a time for the light hearted stuff or even deep felt resentment, but this isn't that time.

For the 99% of fair league fans in here who discuss all this with rationale view (right or wrong), thank you for not resorting to the kill them off crap.

This gets more and more hilarious.
It's de-evolved back into an ASADA/AFL/Labor conspiracy now I see.
What a brilliant tactical and strategical political move. Disenfranchise the Rugby League loving populations of two of the most critical states in Labor's efforts to avoid decimation at the next election for the entire course of a season running directly into a Federal election.
Truly devious.

It triple pains me to agree with Loudwanker; but he is spot on - if the decks need to be cleared I hope David Smith is the man to do it - and take this once great game forward - drug free where talent, training and teamwork is what wins games and premierships not the latest "clear".
Why should it pain anyone to be right??????????

Sounds like a good idea - have never understood why players are getting Vitamin B & C shots anyway, surely they can talk a pill.
Or eat an orange.

and you can bet that Gillard has seen to it that ASADA don't ask Essendon a thing
Geez you are a dumb paranoid f*ck.

Nobody forces individual citizens to do drugs. Workplaces with safety restraints do in fact drug test now. These drugs are picked up pretty quick in tests. Allowing performance enhancing drugs does force athletes to use them because clean athletes cannot compete with doping athletes in particular within strength based sports.

The organised crime thing everyone is just being a little bit hysterical over. Nobody cares in the context of recreational drugs or they would be legalised.

Where is the Essendon investigation?

It's gone very quiet.

No because as soon as they get a positive test they make an announcement. ASADA haven't said a single word on this. Everything in the media has come from ex-ASADA employees

As much as I think the Sharkies supporters haven't done themselves any favours by putting their head in the sand throughout the entire process, and being quite vocal that it was a witchhunt (even though they had no more/less info than the rest of us) I'm with MWAL. This isn't the time to be laying the boot into the Sharks or their fans. They're already hurting and don't need it (if you must, save it for a couple weeks time when the wound isn't so raw). Besides, if any fan is certain that their club is 100% clean, they are kidding themselves and just setting themselves up to cop it delux if their club is next on ASADA's radar.

Since we are talking about Jan-May 2011 would it be a fair assumption to say that ASADA do not have any positive results?

It is really sad to see the sheer number of idiotic posts on this thread by alleged rugby league fans who at times seem almost gleeful at the possible demise of unwitting players and potentially even entire club(s) and their fanbases on the back of a piss poor case that:

* has been bungled at every turn
* considered so weak that police and judges wouldn't be able to prosecute it
* executed via veiled threats and innuendo
* with unclear and constantly shifting deals and deadlines
* potentially even biasing between different sporting codes
* being over-sensationalised and over-politicised
* eliminating impartiality and fueling other agendas
* conducted by an organization - ASADA - that has admitted its own previous incompetence
* and is leakier than the f**king Titanic!

The whole thing is one giant clusterf**k

I don't think anyone should stick the boot into Sharkies fans. This is terrible for the club.

I wouldn't hope this crap comes onto any player, club, fan.

Head up Sharkie fans!
