There was talk before that AFL meeting yesterday that the Essendon club may be deregistered.

The fact all 17 clubs sided with the AFL could be a lot worse for Essendon than just being on their own

Going by ASADA's rules, what goes into an individuals body is ultimately their responsibility, is that correct?

The amount of injections that they undertook over such a long period, surely someone amongst them all would asked the question.

Exactly. I saw a figure of 25.000 injections reported in one article, so assuming a 40 man squad, that's over 600 injections each. Of course the players had no reason to be suspicious

I'm not saying this will happen BUT all sides including the Broncos signed with the then-ARL to say they wouldn't form a breakaway competition and then months later the SL raid happened. What I am saying is out of the 17 clubs that backed the AFL, there would still be some that are not happy with the way the AFL is running the game, including concessions and handouts to expansion teams and the Demons

Quite a bit different.

The loyalty agreements were signed quite a bit more than a few months before the player raids from memory, not that that's relevant to the discussion.

Superleague had the support of a few teams.

Essendon ahs no support from anyone, even before the conference yesterday. No team was jumping to support them, they all distanced themselves from the club.

Regardless of what the clubs say publically I'm sure there are a few from the southern states not happy about the handouts the others are getting in private

The Victorian sides haven't been happy about the enormous amount of funds being splashed on non-Victorian sides while they struggle financially.

You can't blame them either.

Double edged sword though. They're not happy of the funds being given to non-victorian teams, but on the other hand they need those same non-victorian teams to be strong and viable to ensure a TV rights deal that keeps the league's coffers full to the brim.

I think its a case that they understand and accept money needs to be sent to these non-Vic teams, but the amounts that head out of Victoria compared to what stays in the state is starting to become more and more unreasonable.

If a 1-2 teams needs million upon millions over a number of years just to stay afloat (without being competitive or providing players at a local level) then why bother.

It's a viable argument.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

$1.25b over 5 years for 9 games, equals $27m pa per game, which is what they would lose from their media deal (ok its not an exact science) if the didn't subsidise say GWS and GC. Not to mention the broadening of the game, tapping into extra markets, etc.
