Essendon look like losing all their points next week and missing the finals. Where does that leave Cronulla who are guilty of pretty much the same thing?

It does not leave Cronulla anywhere until they are charged with something.

At this stage they have not been.

As such, what is the point of this thread?

As somebody that follows both codes I do not think it is that simple.

We don't know if they're guilty of the same thing or of less or of more. People have been rushing to compare the two situations when there are so many variables.

Essendon may have committed a larger crime but they also may have been more co-operative with authorities. Or it may be the exact opposite of that.

With so many variables we can't rush to make judgements before everything is out in the open.

Without a clear idea of what each club did wrong and with the clubs not responding to it in the exact same way you cannot say they both must be equally punished.

And these punishments that appear to be about to be handed to Essendon have not come from ASADA. They are punishments handed out by the AFL. There is no guarantee the NRL will be equally as strict. They may end up being more harsh or less harsh.

In summary, there are far too many unknowns at this stage.

It's a pity this whole saga has dragged on as long as it has. I would feel sorry for Sharks fans if the club were to be penalised by losing their competition points and missing out on competing in September. But if guilty then I guess it's a just decision.

It is pretty obvious that there was some sort of drug system over there. NRL should ban them from finals for bringing thew game into disrepute.
