Is this punishment determined by the AFL only? Or is it ASADA as well? The way I understand it this is the AFL's doing only without ASADA's involvement. The reason I ask is that if ASADA isn't done/involved we may still see criminal/civil charges laid.

This is from the AFL for bringing the game into disrepute, ASADA investigation is still on going

Yeah this is a punishment for bringing the AFL into disrepute handed down by the AFL. HOWEVER the AFL have charged them with using PEDs. Now if ASADA choose to not hand down infraction notices it will be a dark day for Australian sport imo and just go to show how much sway BIG SPORT and the AFL in particular has over government.

We are a nation that takes the integrity of sport seriously and there is at least some proof (text messages, etc) of Essendon running a systematic regime of PEDs. If ASADA choose not to do anything at all it will be disgusting, if they choose to hand out infraction notices and the AFL punish the players with a slap on the wrist with a feather and WADA successfully appeal it will be embarrassing for all of Australian sport imo.

Its important that they receive the appropriate punishment for breaching WADA/ASADA code.

This years points is not enough, do they lose draft as well?

Sounds rather soft so it'll be interesting to see what ASADA/WADA expect after they hand down their report.

And is Hird still coaching or is he suspended as well?

I bet afl dont actually take their points, (they never do this apparently),just exclusion from finals..

so essentially a one game ban...

neutered/bhP/Fat/GONZO/bellyache/inferioreats was a really rattled by last night's result, wasn't he?

Hey, chin up fella. Round 24 2010, Canberra beat us 32-12. You'd of course recall the eventual outcome of that season.

Am pretty sure ASADA has been quoted as saying any findings re NRL / Cronulla will be delivered after the finals series.

So we could just be looking at stripping Sharks of a Premiership after the event (like happened with the Storm). No big deal.

If the Sharks play for 0 points next year it'll be interesting to see if the blood some youngsters instead of raiding other clubs

Hypothetically speaking... It'd be a smart move if they did, no point buying players at the twilight of their career

Everyone grab your popcorn. We're about to witness the worst day in AFL history.

Essendons punishments are as follows:

- Dumped from the Finals - Club keeps their points at 9th position (WHAT?)

- 2 million dollar fine

- James Hird banned from coaching for 12 months

- Loss of both 1st and 2nd 2013 draft picks and 1st round 2014

- Danny Corchran banned for 6 months

- Mark Thompson 30k fine, other sanctions not mentioned

Wet Lettuce leaf. Unbelievably soft. Essendon have practically admitted to drug cheating and they're still able to compete next year.

If the findings and any punishments are handed out after this finals series and before next season I doubt we'll be playing for 0 points next year.
