Geez you'd want to hope that Crounulla don't cop the same sanctions as Essendon. Hird gone for 12 months, $2 million fine and loss of 1st and 2nd round draft picks for the next 2 years which will by far hot them the hardest out of all penalties because it'll set them back for a good few years going forward.

Obviously draft picks wouldn't affect Cronulla but a fine like that and possibly player sanctions it'd be hard to see them make it through that. Essendon are strong enough to surive but i'm not so sure the Sharks are. I sincerely hope they do get through it (should it happen) as i don't want to lose any club in the comp. Even though many up there would be happy to see mine go

If a complete teamwide organised drug cheating scheme is only enough to get a team dropped to nine, what does an AFL team have to do to be dropped into tenth or below? They'd practically need to have [president of a certain country in the Levant that is the subject of contemporary international pressure] as their coach.

Soft penalty, AFL.

Edit: I have edited this for good taste before even hitting Post Quick Reply.

Of course dank was only at cronulla briefly, was at manly for years, I can't see two teams playing for zero points next year if indiscretions from years ago are proven.

Everyone grab your popcorn. We're about to witness the worst day in AFL history.

Essendons punishments are as follows:

- Dumped from the Finals - Club keeps their points at 9th position (WHAT?)

- 2 million dollar fine

- James Hird banned from coaching for 12 months

- Loss of both 1st and 2nd 2013 draft picks and 1st round 2014

- Danny Corchran banned for 6 months

- Mark Thompson 30k fine, other sanctions not mentioned

Wet Lettuce leaf. Unbelievably soft. Essendon have practically admitted to drug cheating and they're still able to compete next year.

Agree, seems soft; but it depends on whether ASADA issues infraction notices against players.

Remember the officials have zip to do with ASADA.

The club might come under notice of ASAD/WADA if (I believe) multiple players received bans from the infraction notices. So, Essendon might not be off the hook, yet.

The NRL will work a deal to see them moved to Perth

I'm not having a dig at Cronulla or their fans but the NRL can't afford to lose anymore teams with a heritage and need to cull teams in Sydney.

If I was playing for no points I would be taking players out left right and centre. No one gets sent off these days and a one or two week suspension is nothing. The nrl and judiciary are a joke.

This was about punishing the club. The players are yet to face the music.

Cronulla will be wetting it IF they are facing a similar situation. That st George debt might be leaping back up significantly.

Does it really matter whether it is 9th or last. I suppose it was to beat the punters who backed them to get the wooden spoon.

Either way, they will not play in the finals.

Personally I think your club will be taking their license, if the penalties are anywhere near comparable. That's the sad part for Cronulla: Essendons penalties are soft themselves but even if Cronulla are hit with sanctions that aren't as bad but near so, they will be crippled.
