I think he is talking about Essendon.

The way I read this is that the AFL tried to charm some nuffies at ASADA into granting Essendon a sweetheart deal which was offered and then withdrawn.

If my memory serves me correctly, the NRL got wind of this and saw the Government about it as it was an absolutely outrageous deal.

I am sure some AFL friendly ASADA agent must have been involved.

So Essendon seems to be arguing that its players should get off because some ASADA officer offered the AFL a settlement outside the ambit of their authority.

All this does is make ASADA and the AFL look bloody corrupt, but it will not satisfy anybody the Essendon should get off scot free because of it.

AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou has confirmed his league approached anti-doping authorities to ask how players might beat a two-year suspension if found guilty of using performance-enhancing drugs.
The AFL went to the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority in early February, soon after the release of the Australian Crime Commission's report of illegal activity in sport, to get an "immediate clarification" on whether it was possible to get a player's sanction reduced.

Demetriou's admission is likely to anger NRL figures, who are concerned the AFL struck a deal with ASADA that any Essendon players found guilty of doping would be spared penalty while their Cronulla counterparts would be suspended. Both clubs are under investigation.
Demetriou dismissed as a "nonsensical, preposterous proposition" that the AFL had the power to strike a deal with the federal agency, but said the league was being responsible in asking if it was possible for players to get a reduced penalty if found guilty.
"We're professional and we want to know how to go about doing an investigation and make sure the players all cooperate so that in the event that there are available reductions in sanctions, this is what needs to be done," he told SEN on Saturday.
"That's being professional and being diligent and being thorough. I can't speak for the NRL, they can speak for themselves.
"I know how we do our business. We do it honourably, with integrity, we do it seriously and we do it professionally."
Demetriou said the AFL was also given permission by authorities to confirm that Essendon and one player from another club were being investigated for possible doping. He said the league wanted to inform the public of the information so that not all clubs would be tarred by the ACC report.
Later, on Triple M, Demetriou indicated the AFL had expressed its displeasure at the game and clubs being linked to doping allegations when the ACC had publicly presented very little evidence.
"You shouldn't assume we haven't said something, James, and you shouldn't assume that we haven't done privately," he said when asked by North Melbourne chairman James Brayshaw if the league felt entitled to defend itself on integrity issues to the ACC.
Essendon's use of supplements in 2012 is the subject of investigations by ASADA, the AFL and the Bombers themselves.
Demetriou said Essendon could be punished by the AFL if the club's conduct was thought to have brought the game into disrepute, although he said the league would most likely await the ASADA probe - which could take months - before it imposed any sanctions.

This is what makes Essendon and James Hird look so stupid though, they are basically throwing there own code under the bus, when it CLEARLY was trying to help them and make them get off.

Essendon, the players and James Hird bid to stop ASADA with injuction

Date

June 18, 2014 - 6:24PM

Essendon, its 34 current and former players and James Hird have warned ASADA they will seek an injunction that would stop the issuing of infraction notices if the drugs body does not halt the investigation.

Lawyers representing Essendon, the 34 players with show cause notices and Hird have each sent letters to ASADA today requesting a halt to the investigation, or it will seek what sources said was ''an urgent injuction'' to have any further action - such as infraction notices - stopped.

Those representing Essendon, the players and Hird want ASADA to allow their case to be determined in the Federal court before ASADA takes any further action. The AFL, on the recommendation of ASADA, could issue infraction notices before the case is heard - an outcome that the club, the players and exiled coach are seeking to prevent.

ASADA only has to give the players 10 days to respond to the show cause notices, prompting the players to ask for an extension - which ASADA has said it will consider.

The Federal court hearing is due to begin on June 27, meaning that ASADA could issue infractions before the matter is heard. Essendon is seeking to challenge the legality of the joint AFL-ASADA investigation, and to have the investigation shut down.

Essendon wanted an answer from ASADA by 10am tomorrow, while the legal team acting for the players have requested a response earlier, by 5pm today. ASADA had not yet responded to a previous request by the club.

It really is just a bit part sport played in a few suburbs, so I can understand why they don't think they should be under the same scrutiny as the elite level sports.

Hmm, this theory from BF sounds plausible

Its obvious now that Vlad/Evans/Asada had a little deal to get this swept under the carpet which is so Vlad style. Then ASADA get nervous, do a backflip and the next thing is Evans and Vlad leave before shite hits the fan.

This is probably why Hird was so smug about being in a good place cause probably Vlad/Evans originally told him that he should cooperate and it would be all good. Then they are left holding the bag with ASADA and Hird is fuming about taking full responsibility.

and

Nah, the NSW media and the NRL got wind and threatened holy hell.

I remember Vlad's interview the next day when it got exposed by Rebecca Wilson in The Daily Terror.

He was a picture of composed fury whilst denying all lol
