ahh how good is the Essendon club statement

Essendon statement:
"The club is currently digesting the decision and we will provide a further update later today." Lindsay Tanner

Let me interpret that.

"We don't know what to say, we just got throat f**ked"

Essendon should have cooperated with investigators when this first happened. WADA brought in the expert who investigated Lance Armstrong. Essendon players will now probably sue the club. This has a long way to run. What of that anti aging clinic owner?

the AFL's credibility is shot. they now realise they're a pissant sport that can't control outcomes when it comes to the big boys like WADA

they interfered at every level here to get their cheats off even trying to do a deal with Labor

AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL WADA APPEAL AGAINST 34 CURRENT AND FORMER PLAYERS OF ESSENDON FOOTBALL CLUB UPHELD; VIOLATION OF ANTI-DOPING RULES ESTABLISHED; PLAYERS SUSPENDED

Lausanne, 11 January 2016 –

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has today issued its decision in the arbitration procedure between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and 34 current and former players of Essendon.

The appeal filed by WADA against the Australian Football League (AFL) Anti-Doping Tribunal’s decision of 31 March 2015 is upheld and the appealed decision is set aside.

The 34 players concerned are sanctioned with a period of ineligibility of two years, commencing on 31 March 2015, with credit given for any individual period of ineligibility already served.

Thus, most of the suspensions will come to an end in November 2016.

The arbitration procedure was conducted by a panel of CAS arbitrators: the Hon. Michael J. Beloff QC, barrister in London, United Kingdom (President), Mr. Romano Subiotto QC, Solicitor Advocate in Brussels, Belgium, and the Hon. James Spigelman AC QC, barrister in Sydney, Australia and London, United Kingdom.

The Panel held a hearing with the parties in Sydney, Australia from 16 to 20 November 2015.

In its Arbitral Award, the Panel found to its comfortable satisfaction that Clause 11.2 of the 2010 AFL Doping Code (use of a prohibited substance) has been violated and found by a majority that all players were significantly at fault.

The full Arbitral Award is published on the CAS website.

The Cronulla Sharks are a very lucky football club in all of this. Poor record keeping and no funds to fight the bans pretty much worked out for them in the end.

I think it's more the fact they threw their hands up and said 'you got us'

The ego of Hird and co cost the players and the club dearly.

As bad as Cronulla has been run, they played the right card on this one.

Some Cronulla supporters are still blaming Labor, Gillard, the ABC, the SMH, the Unions. In their view the whole thing was a conspiracy set up by Labor to have them rubbed out or moved to Perth.

While Cronulla ended up accepting a plea deal Essendon fought ASADA at every turn.

Can't wait for James Hird to pop up at some stage today.

They will probably only be able to sue the club for pain and suffering and negligence. Essendon will suffer greatly and for years.
