I'd keep pretty much the same team except:

In: Glen Stewart, Aaron Woods, Tariq Sims
Out: Beau Scott, Ben Creagh and ???

oh and not too sure about at Pearce, but surely there's a 1st receiver out there that can kick into space.

Game 1 will be hugely important again next season, particularly with it being at Lang Park.

There's no point speculating on a specific squad for it now. But not for all the temptation in the world should Gallen, Bird, Lewis, Williams, Watmough, G.Stewart & T.Sims be in the 17. A lack of a high calibre prop rotation hurt NSW again this series and it is a part of the puzzle Stuart needs to solve in order to defeat QLD. He cannot go down the route of smaller or wider forwards filling the role again. The only thing I'm certain about is that Galloway won't be a replacement. He's too slow for Origin.

Another aspect is the halves. There was rarely any organisation on the 4th and 5th to capitilise on territory gained and field position. I just don't think the Ricky or the next coach can use the excuse that there isn't another player stepping up. Pearce has not performed for the Blues. A debut HB would still be the organiser and boss in his first game at any level. Pearce is a senior player in terms of Blues appearances and really had to make it his team to lead around the field. As has been said by many others, he failed again this series.

As a Tigers fan, I agree to an extent. Galloway is definitely too slow to start but I think he's just about the perfect prop replacement for them. I do think that Woods and Mannah offer more though. Mannah in particular seems the perfect Origin prop and I can't believe he was overlooked tbh.

I know this sounds absurd considering Penrith has 3 players in the squad, but I think Parra's performance hurt Mannah's prospects.

The unfortunate thing for Mannah is that he is now back in the pack and is competing with all the other NSW eligible props (ex Tamou & Grant) who didn't get a gig this year in order to crack into the squad again. He'll really have to be in form from the opening of next season to get back in. Incumbents who have done the job will always be looked upon favourably so unless Tamou & Grant are absolutely woeful early next season, they've already got 2 of the prop rotation positions sewn up.

Likewise with Woods. His form in the 1st half of this season will mean nothing now going into next year's series. He'll have to continue to improve and play well going into next season.

Or there might be another prop who starts to shine. I don't think anyone would have envisaged Tamou & Grant leading the way up forward for NSW this time last year. A year is a long time.

I think Brett Stewart will be unluckily dropped he had a good series in my opinion but i think NSW need Hayne at Fullback due to the Halves being so poor.

Who you pick on the other wing is open for debate really it could be any number of players.

Campese is the best NSW half and i am sure can organise better than Pearce.

Sims should come in on the bench

Woods is the next front rower in line.

To be honest i think NSW are a good half and a more slightly better bench away from beating Queensland.

It goes to show NSW's problems these past few years have been mainly down to selection blunders. Queensland are still a far superior side but if you don't pick your best team you are even further behind than you should be.

NSW only needed to make one change from this year's series they shouldn't of picked Creagh and should of selected a front rower in his place. It could of made a big difference at least NSW competed in the forwards this year and that is what made the series close.

LMAO The arguing, in-fighting and confusion over the NSW origin team has begun already.

Lets see if we can predict the chain of events for next year.

Gallen will be captain and a grub
Stuart will cry to the media
The NSW media will come out with another "we are confident this year" approach
Former players will liken QLD to a boxer in the 12th round without the knockout blow
The fans will argue over who should be in the team
The NSW team may win one game and make it to a decider
Any controversial decisions will all be against NSW of course
QLD will go about their business
NSW will lose the series again
We will be back here in a NSW Team 2014 thread
Rinse and repeat:lol:

I wasn't a massive fan of moving Gallen back to lock series and I thought he didn't play as well at lock. I'd play him at prop for around 50-60 minutes, we have enough leaders in the backrow and hooker to lead the team around with him on the bench.

Pearce has had too many chances and come up will nill too many times. Both Reynolds are too inexperienced to be thrown into halfback at the moment. So I think Wallace is our only reasonable pick outside of Pearce.

It's far too early, but I believe every single player next year should be in their specialist position. No fullbacks on the wing, no second-rowers as prop.

Backline to start with

1. Hayne
2. Morris
3. Jennings
4. Morris (even though he's left side in NRL, he's proven he can play right side).
5. Uate
6. Carney/Soward
7. Wallace

what was the difference?

with #8 on his back, Gallen played in the middle 3rd.

with #13 on his back, he still played in the middle 3rd.

Lewis, Bird & G.Stewart started as the left, middle & right forwards in Game 1.

Bird, Gallen & G.Stewart started as the left, middle & right forwards in Game 2.

Bird, Gallen & Scott started as the left, middle & right forwards in Game 3.

the #13 doesn't even 'lock' the scrum for most teams anymore. It's the #9 who predominantly does now.

don't read too much into what number a player wears......particularly with the #11, 12 & 13. it all comes down to how the manager intends to use them.

Pearce has had too many chances and come up will nill too many times. Both Reynolds are too inexperienced to be thrown into halfback at the moment. So I think Wallace is our only reasonable pick outside of Pearce.

agree on Pearce, but all the speculation about what HB or squad should be picked next year is premature. afterall, i doubt Tamou and Grant were starters in most pundits teams this time last year..........

NSW got lucky this year in selections with Gidley injured, unfortunately for NSW he'll be back on the bench, or even worse at 7 replacing Pearce, lol I love Ricky Stupid

Read his stats for when he has played at prop to when he has played at lock. He makes more metres and metres per run at playing prop and makes nearly as many tackles. His ballplaying at lock isn't as smooth as well compared to Lewis or Bird or G. Stewart.

I know numbers don't mean anything as much. But Gallen definitely played a different role in game 2 and 3 compared to game 1 and last year.
