Merritt scored 22 tries outside a wooden spoon team bro. Don't even try and pull that argument

Yeah, you're picking a team based on failed assumptions that have gone into picking failed teams for the past five years. I'm sorry you can't see the error of your ways ;-)

I prefer your scattergun approach of picking the flavour of the month for one game, then knee-jerk dropping of players after 1 bad performance for the next flavour of the month. Maybe we should just put all eligible players into a lottery and select the first XVII that come out, because clearly anyone that has played in a losing series before is damaged goods and could never be a great player for NSW.

Honestly though, I do feel for Merritt. His time was 2009 and 2010 when the likes of Wolfman and Steve Turner got gigs. I can't change what happened in the past, but we have better options now.

while Josh Morris hasn't scored a try or been outstanding this year, he has been very very solid. He is making a half break basically every time he touches the ball. 150m a game every week. Plus he proved last year he can match up against Inglis. Extremely harsh and wrong decision to drop him. He adapted to right centre last year and had 2 blinders in origin. I don't disagree with Ferguson being picked but play them at 4. J.Morris 5. Ferguson. If we are going to change basically the entire backline around (only Jennings in the same position) we are asking to get our asses handed to us, again...

rd 9 - 165m, 1 line break, 3 tackle breaks, 8 tackles (0 missed)
rd 8 - 172m, 1 try assist, 1 line break assist, 3 tackle breaks, 10 tackles (1 missed)
rd 7 - 86m, 2 tackle breaks, 6 tackles (4 missed)
rd 6 - 60m, 2 tackle breaks, 7 tackles (2 missed)
rd 5 - 80m, 1 line break, 3 tackle breaks, 25 tackles (0 missed)
rd 4 - 133m, 1 line break, 3 tackle breaks, 19 tackles (0 missed)
rd 3 - 131m, 2 line breaks, 1 line break assist, 3 tackle breaks, 9 tackles (0 missed)
rd 2 - 76m, 1 line break, 4 tackle breaks, 10 tackles (2 missed)
rd 1 - 125m, 1 try assist, 1 tackle break, 10 tackles (0 missed)

104 tackles for 9 missed tackles. Marking against Inglis who is in his career best form i'd much rather that. In comparison Ferguson has made 57 tackles and missed 14. It would be criminal to drop Morris after what he did last year when he has been very solid this year. hardly terrible stats

big hit!

Dunno. I see some weaknesses, particularly on the left outside edge (i guess Watmough could be inside on that side next to Pearce to strengthen it up).

And if Gallen is picked at #13, how much game time is Merrin going to get and how will he be used? I just don't see what impact he is going to have unless he can get some decent time on the field, and that is in Gallen's position.

Overall, I read this:

FB - Slater
RW - Tate
RC - Hodges
LC - Inglis
LW - Boyd
FE - Thurston
HB - Cronk
AH - Smith
PF - Scott
PF - Shillington
MF - Myles
RF - Thaiday
LF - Harrison
IP - McGuire
IP - Kennedy
IF - Parker
IF - Gillett

and think QLD will have a structured & balanced team as usual while NSW fall into the trap of trying to fit in players yet again rather than building a structured squad that can be used effectively. Not as bad as Stuart, but heading that way nonetheless. If only 3 props are selected, then definitely so.

Surely this talk of JMoz missing out is nonsense. The guy was excellent last series. Should be a lock.

You don't think number 8, 10, 14, 15, 16 or 17 will fit? Or do you genuinely believe he cannot make metres and tackles in the middle of the field without the 13 on his back?

If i wanted was someone to make make metres and tackles I would choose someone who's been playing good at 8 or 10 and if i wanted an impact layer I would choose someone who's a proven impact player. Merrin is playing well, but he's behing Gallen and Bird for the 13 Jersey, both of who are 80 minute players and there are better props running around than him - Tamou, Grant, Fifita, Woods, Mannah and Gallen depending on where they're gonna play him.

I don't mind the idea of J. Morris & Fergo combining in attack, potentially very dangerous conbination

Not gonna lie, but the battle on that side between Morris, Ferguson vs Boyd and Inglis is probably the thing I'm looking forward to one game one. That and how Jarryd Hayne plays.

Jorge Taufua is the one going under the radar here.

If he has a great game tomorrow, he deserves a wing spot IMO.

Also, I think Josh Morris might have played himself out of a centre spot today.

1 Hayne
2 Taufua
3 Jennings
4 Ferguson
5 Wighton

Or even a but more left field

1 Dugan
2 Hayne
3 Jennings
4 Ferguson
5 Wighton / Taufua

Assuming they are out along with Lewis:
1. Hayne
2. Wighton (glad I am not the only one thinking this)
3. Jennings
4. Morris
5. Ferguson

6. Carney
7. Pearce

8. Grant
9. Farah
10. Tamou
11. Watmough
12. Bird
13. Gallen

14. Woods
15. Merrin
16. Fifita
17. Sims/Mannah

Still think it's too early for Jack Wighton and i dont give him any hope of being picked (i think he will be named 18th man though) but i also dont he'd let anyone down if we got some injuries in the backs and he was picked for game 2-3

I think it's too early also, but I think he still offers a lot more than Merritt and Taufua even if he is young. I have a bad feeling this is what will happen though:

1. Gidley
2. Hayne

I'd definitely be playing Merrin 100%. Where I struggle to pick a player still is Right Wing. I seriously don't want Merritt there. He's still to soft in defence at times and it's something I don't we can afford.

Looked as if he's been told he has lost his spot today. Very disinterested.
