14 - Woods
15 - Mannah
16 - Fifita
17 - Merrin

Go prop heavy and just bash holes through the centre of QLD's attack, wear out Smith and Cronk in defence.

It's the only way to have any chance of shutting them down.

no Gallen?

lols re the hard ons for Dugan.

So I guess we should judge every NSW selection based on their performance against Parra.

f**k me.

So no1 thinks Adam Reynolds is a good shot this year? -I would say you have nothing to lose given his brilliant form this year. I know Pierce somehow gets the nod. But if I was a blues fan I would want to see:

1 - Hayne
2 - Uate
3 - Jennings
4 - Ferguson
5 - Merrit
6 - Maloney or Carney
7 - A. Reynolds
8 - Gallen
9 - Farah
10 - Tamou
11 - Lewis
12 - Watmough
13 - Bird

14 - Gidley
15 - Grant
16 - Fifita
17 - Merrin

I am the first Gidley basher you'll see. But he played very well in the 9 role against Dogs and is versatile and experienced. If that side was announced, I would definitely not feel safe for 8-in-a-row

Only the Pearce haters and nuffies are pushing the Reynolds inclusion this year. He's still raw, doesn't take on the line near as much as an elite HB should, and is predominantly a game manager at Souths playing off the platform his dominating forwards provide. Needs another full season in the NRL for him to continue to develop his game before considering him. Throwing him in now is premature and will only go down the route of throwing him onto the scrap heap like NSW did with Wallace, Mullen & Soward.

A major issue too is one of balance. The presence of Carney (expected) and Farah (definitely) really lessens the need for him in this team. And like last year, I also expect all discipline and structure to go out the window with selfish players like Gallen and Farah on the field in the same side. Gallen will get in the way of the props in the middle, and Farah will get in the way of the halves. They both came out of last season looking great in a losing series, but their games were part of the reason NSW couldn't deliver the final blow. They preferred to do their own thing and pad their stats. Reynolds will be like a deer in the headlights without structure and Farah encroaching on his thing.

Uate & Merritt on the wings will be cannon-fodder for Cronk & Thurston, and Gidley doesn't offer any new dimension off the bench. A utility for the sake of a utility is the wrong approach.

Souths will just dominate the origin period, Sounds tops to me

i'm a souths fan too mate.

souths have origin calibre players. they are Inglis, Luke, & Sam Burgess.

All other players are just getting a mention for the sake of having a Souths player in the NSW squad. These guys are either not ready, or are playing off the structure of the game plan and the platform other players provide.

The origin calibre players at Souths this year are not eligible for NSW.

EDIT: I'd consider Teo and G Burgess in Origin before any others in the Souths squad too. Once again, not NSW eligible.

Glad someone pointed it out. Sutton might do ok off the bench when compared to other 'utility' options (i.e. Gidley) but TBH in NSW top squad, there is no place for Sutton, Merritt or even Reynolds (yet) barring a shit tonne of injuries

Reynolds is not ready, he needs at least another year refining his running game

Sutton is ready though and should be first choice five eight

Seems as though he has settled on his backs which means Dugan isn't considered.

Bloody ridiculous that he's building the forwards around one bloke and is still unsure whether he's going with a conventional pack of a 4 prop rotation, or the down the mobile route which QLD ended up wearing down in the middle last year. Does it really matter where he picks Gallen? The structure and game plan will just go out the window with Gallen calling for the ball whenever he can.

And you'd think a manager would have worked out his game plan based on NSW strengths and QLD weaknesses by now. It just says to me that Daley is picking players at face value and without consideration of the way they are used at club. His game plan seems secondary and will be sorted out on the fly.

Based on the article, it appears that he's considering Merrin only as a prop despite him starring in a different role.

Yes, Woods letting Goodwin through up the middle like a revolving door didn't look good, but a good middle defence won't have one bloke left high n dry on his own here like the Tigers defence did. I'm stumped as to why Toleman is getting a look in, TBH.

The more Daley talks and the more of these articles I read, the more I think 8-0.

Was going to mention Dugan, had a good debut despite us not having any field position. Was dangerous with his chances though, could easily be slotted back into the team

slotted back?
as if he would have been a chance if he didn't mess up. i don't think early this season while still at the raiders, anyone was talking as if was any chance of playing origin this season.

some journalists are too dumb to have completed an arts degree, surely. one sentence in the story says gidley is "expected to miss out" if daley chooses a bench of 4 forwards. of course he'll miss out if that is the case, he cannot be a bench forward, he is not a forward!

Nice bump by the way. Dugan was mentioned by a few for fullback. He is a young talented fullback who had a solid debut for NSW in a game where we had no field position.

He would be 2nd or 3rd choice fullback in almost everyones team.

I didn't say he should be fullback, but if he was there even at the start of the year I would not of doubted him

3 Jenko
4 JMoz
5 Gordon/Ferugson

That's the backline I'd run with. I think Josh can repeat his last years series form. He also showed great speed and matched-up against GI quite well to. Hopefully, Hayne at fullback allows him to inject himself into the game off support-plays and running off linebreak assists.

Jenk is a given. No explanation needed. The No5. jersey is the only position I'm undecided on.

Farah did not overplay his hand in a bad way though imo. If he hadn't stood up a couple of times we would of been further from winning. Pearce and Carney need to be strong enough to demand the ball otherwise others will naturally take control

1. Hayne
6. Maloney
7. Pearce
9. Farah

That's the spine I'd be running with. Pearce has to learn to play the ball. He's played some decent phases this year and shows he set-up tries and pass.
