Didn't Tamou come to Sydney at age 12? What age did uate come over, 15 wasn't it?

Under this system inglis would be for nsw and teo nz. Would anyone else not be elidgable? Does this now change someone like Papallis elidgability?

Papalii moved to Logan when he was 6 so he won't be affected.

Probably a silly question...... Does the origin eligibility change affect current players?.... I was under the impression that Greg Inglis moved from Nsw to qld and played his first rep footy in qld.... Therefore that's where he plays origin

Don't know for a fact but it is unlikely to be retrospective.

It's not just Inglis it would affect Tamou, Uate etc.

Good ruling in my opinion, does seem to be all about where you grew up in that press release though.

So if you move to Australia at say 14 it seems to indicate you could never play origin but under the international rules you could still play for Australia. People lin the same situation as james mcmanus would not play origin in the future as he grew up in NT.

Makes sense to me.

Yeah that is how I read it. This will mean immigrants who choose to play for Australia will do so for love of the jersey and their new country, rather than the lure of origin pay cheques.

Brilliant rule change, and should stop a whole lot of grumbling from people like myself.

It will not be retrospective, but it means we will not have guys like Tamou and Uate being lost to a state jersey. If they choose Australia, it will be because they want to play for their new country not some glorified allstar state team. And I am ok with that.

Tamou would still be eligible for nsw and Aus under the new rules i think. If he had never played for nz or nz maori before. He lived in nsw since he was 12...is that right?

Anyway I like these changes, benefit of the doubt was ruining the game the way the refs had been using it and the integrity of State of Origin has been saved.

He was 13. But going off how two-faced he is he'd probably have just done a "Pakistani cricketer" and claimed he was 9.

If it was 12 yes, but Ive seen varying reports of 13 and 15 when he moved.

Regardless its irrelevant for the current guys, I think its a good move. I can see some controversy about what constitutes "lived" in QLD/NSW in the years to come but think its a better "line in the sand" than previously.

(i.e. Player X went to boarding school in Charters Towers for 6 months, or his Dad worked in Wollongong for a year etc.)

The best outcome is that it will stop a lot of "Kiwis" playing for Australia (because I have to believe that if they were given the choice they would take NZ, and it was only Origin that swayed them previously)

The new SOO ruling will exclude any wa or vic players who come through their systems. Up to now they would have been eligible for nsw due to sg ball.

So what happens to a player who moves from qld to nsw at a young age, or vice versa? Which state do they represent? You will still have the situation of players picking and choosing who they wish to play for.

I guess anyplayer who manages to be eligible for both states under the new rules has the right to choose.

Its not ideal but I can't see it occurring too often.

The Father/son origin rule is a strange one to include. I see the example they used for Billy Slater's kids who willl most probably grow up in Vic. But what will they say about someone like Mick Crocker's kids who grow up in NSW?

All good rule changes except for the shoulder charge rubbish.

The way I read it was that the son of an Origin player would be eligible for the state their father played for regardless of where they were born/lived. I might be reading too much into it though.

Crockers will be eligible for QLD, thats the point of the father/son rule.

I think its a good thing personally, keeps some tradition in the game. Means Matty Rogers would have been eligible for NSW etc.

I assume its an either/or scenario, but I cant see many kids not wanting to play for there Dad's home state.
