Origin Eligibility changes

If you went retrospectively the following players would be in ineligible:
Israel folau
Greg inglis
Ben teo
Wayne batrim
James tamou just he moved here at 13.
Craig smith.
Willie tonga
Ken nagas
Craig polla mounter

Not sure what they would do with say a lote tuqiri or aquila uate who moved to qld from Fiji at 15. You would think they would probably still be eligible for qld, given Fiji hardly play.

That's pretty much it. Almost all the other players commonly mentioned moved to their state as primary school age. Karmichael, petero, Adrian lam, Tahu, mat rogers, sterlo, thorn, costigan all fit under the new rules.

But I think it's a clearer rule. Will stop the inglis situation happening.

I read it that neither would be eligible under the new criteria, as they didn't live in either state prior to the age of 13.

Also I reckon Billy Moore needs to be added to your list, as far as Im aware he never lived in QLD (maybe still hasn't), he just played in the QRL comp because he lived in a bordertown (Tenterfield)

The way I read it was that the son of an Origin player would be eligible for the state their father played for regardless of where they were born/lived. I might be reading too much into it though.

What would happen if GI has kids born in NSW?

Common sense video ref changes. Couldn't go on with another year of that shit.

Shoulder charge rules are woeful.

And what the hell is the 'son of an Origin player' rule? Does that mean you can live in QLD all your life and play for NSW because your father did?

Thats the way I read it.

I heard he was actually from Qld but was born in Tenterfield as it was the closest hospital. Could be wrong though

Could very well be right, but I also believe he played his League in Tenterfield also.

If what you are saying is correct, it would probably make him even "more" eligible for QLD, which under the old rules was a bit dodgy.

He pllayed for the Tenterfield Tigers

All the articles on him from Tenterfield don't work now

Moore was from Wallangarra.

This rule, as it reads, would prevent the likes of McManus or any other affiliated states player from playing SOO.

Anyone know if this makes Will Chambers ineligible, I know he's born in NT but unsure if he moved to QLD when he was young ala Ben Barba.

There should be a list by the ARLC with every NRL/Qld Cup, NSW Cup, Toyota Cup player with their eligibility next to their name

Ugh it's so stupid, the very few players who would actually choose to represent another country would be of benefit to Origin, the International game, and be absolutely zero loss to Australia
Exactly, the eligibility rules needed to change but they ofcourse bungled it. I don't mind the before 13 rule (would prefer before 18 and played for a community club in the state, but whatever) however the "must make themselves eligible for australia" nonsense simply hurts the game in every way.

Just for the people saying "would stop the GI situation happening" would you really want to? Would you really want someone on the blues who prefers qld and wishes he played for them and felt nothing for the blue jersey?
Why? That just seems ludicrous to me. There's a reason GI identifies as a qlder and I think it should be respected. Or scoff if you want but actually trying to force a man to represent a state he (understandably) hates is just silly. You can't tell someone they're not a qlder, I don't know what its like down south but its clear these eligibility rules weren't devised by a qlder because they're actually absurd. Anyone who has cheered for the maroons knows what i mean. No one can tell you you're not a qlder if you feel you are, and you dont have to be australian at all. Lots of non australian qlders.

Inglis shouldn't be playing for Queensland under the current rules let alone these new ones

Is Tone83 a pisstake?

I reckon it helps it more to be honest I reckon anyone over 13 will now play for NZ and not be lured by the glamour and reward of Origin.

Anyone under that age will have justifiable claim to be an Aussie they will invariably have lived here for 10+ years.
