It even happens in Rugby League mate.
This city is built on demographic divide.
FFS, I was even at a Parra Penrith semi at Pirtek and a chant started up against Panthers fans about ug boots from Parra fans about them.
Don't be so ignorant.

It's a myth mate. SFC supporters live all across the Sydney metro. FYI they have been around since 2004. Soccer fans from all over embraced Sydney's only A-league team.

How about you stop perpetuating the myth by calling SFC by their real name instead of ESFC ?

And straight out tribalism shouldn't be conflated with a demographic divide. Sure, by definition a socio-economic divide exists in every metropolitan area in the world (and no-one is trying to argue otherwise Suity).

I have (Western Sydney) friends who were originally Sydney FC fans, got on the WSW bandwagon, and now have returned to being Sky Blue regulars - because they got jack of all the RBB macho-thug shit. (And who would blame them :sarcasm:)

Rivarly between supporters of different teams is not automatically down to a demographic thing.... Most Eels fans "hate" the Bulldogs for a lot of reasons - but the demogrpahics in the 1980s and indeed through to this day remain very similar. Also, these days all of the players (NRL and A-League) are paid professionally and very well rewarded - there's no socio-economic difference between a team of sportsmen playing out of Parramatta (or Homebush) and one playing out of the SFS.

If someone resorts to socio-economic stereotypes to try and get one up on their opposition fans, imo it just shows that they aren't clever enough to find another of the many (mostly sporting) reasons there are available to draw a distinction.

Yes. ESFC. a TEAM FOR ALL OF Sydney. f**king lol.
They had 8 years to EMBRACE ALL of Sydney, and didn't give a shit about the west.

Life's too short to be bitter about imaginary soccer rivalries mate. Told you it's a myth.

ESFC ? As self appointed spokesperson for the eastern suburbs residents for the next 5 minutes, the facts are that we could not care less about your very average soccer comp.

Well the RBB thugs and their 'atnmospheric' behaviour have hardly made a team for all of western sydney, have they? That's why there's plenty of people in western sydney who go for the other team!

Don't go full genius Suity, you don't need a geogrpahical divide to concoct a fake rivarly for the sake of a piddly soccer comp. Come up with some better (and less lazy) reasons that you (now) hate the Sky Blues...

Actually, that's not true. I love Sydney. The restaurants are great, awesome pubs and Federation Square is fantastic.

lol. Sorry mate. Been busy this afternoon. Not concentrating. :)

More interested in your thoughts on this.

I reckon that arrest stats are very noisy indicators of the level of trouble in big crowds (particularly if we are talking about 7 out of 40,000.....that may be more than double 3 out of 40,000....but it just doesn't mean much). Depends how much they made arses of themselves by interfering with other people's enjoyment of the game.

I agree and made a similar suggestion a little while ago. Must admit though, my post appeared much more educated and strongly backed up.

There hasn't been 7 arrests at any derby yet mate before Saturday night.
So many of the other derbies have been considered violent and full of thugs and hooligans by the media, despite there being less arrests and ejections.
Yet, the most recent game in the past 4 years with the most arrests and ejections is announced as "well behaved" by police. Why?
Last week at Pirtek, and this week at Allianz, the scummy FTA news crews were there in force, just itching to see anything, even a tom thumb or Po Ha let off. Even the ABC were there with camera crews, waiting for a sparkler. They all got nothing for their news broadcasts both evenings. Therefore, there weren't any hooligans at the game.
Yet, this week, more people ejected and arrested than at any other derby, yet the crowd was well behaved.
It just goes to show how much hysteria there has been over a few flares.
