I think players get pissed off when the referees fail to notice when defenders cheat, so they play it up to help the ref notice what happened. Obviously they can go a bit overboard.

I never played at a high level, but I absolutely hated it when I'd get legitimately tripped from behind, and the ref would call play on - but I'd use my body to shield the ball from the defender, and I'd give away a free kick.

Our coach started telling us to exaggerate when we were fouled to get the ref to take notice.

Defenders usually get away with murder tbh.

But seriously, is the WSW choke starting? Adelaide are unbeaten in 14 games and now top of the table. Wanderers slipped down against Brisbane Roar, the two Melbourne sides are there in the running, and then there's always Sydeny FC (who shold own the Wanderers in the finals, if the past 12 derbies are anything to judge).
