I love Melbourne as a city. They can just learn to shut up about AFL for 2 minutes.
Feels good to discuss cricket with people with more than three live brain cells...
ANTiLAG ?
Malcom Knox's piece on the Chris Gayle story is one of the shitiest pieces of journalisim ive read in quite a while. If anyone knows his email address, I'd be much obliged, as I can't find it myself.
I like it when Melbournians come up to Sydney and want to watch the footy. They are genuinely shocked that there are several games of rugby league shown over the weekend and maybe 1 (Swans) game of AFL (on free to air and showing in bars). They can't believe that the whole country isn't AFL mad. Same goes for the AFL grand final. I lived in an apartment block where a former Melbourne bloke lived. He was bemused that there was nothing going on in pubs and bars for the AFL grand final
So less then half population wise, you'd think it was the biggest game in the world the way the zealots carry on. My cousins husband is a Victorian and is worse then a Mormon trying to spread the gospel that is AFL foodie. My wife is originally from Melbourne and I have spent a fair bit of time there.
That level of ignorance hasn't typically been what I have experienced. Most of them seem to understand that NSW and QLD are rugby league states. They clearly have the rest of the country though (and by some margin).

Didnt say they are all like that. But plenty are. My boss is an expat Victorian and he's the same. Year after year he pestered me to go to a game and when I finally relented he cracked theYeah. That's right, all of them carry on like that.
Every. Single. One.
you must know some crazy people then Gaz, definitely QLDers by the sounds. But they have still nothing on the zealot Victorian AFL fan. It's like some religious crusade or something. Converting the heathens to the greatest game in the world that's popular in 3 states of one small country.Sounds like quite a few league fans I know.

Lets agree to disagree, you only have to watch the commentators on the Big Bash waffle on about Ozzie Wules to know how obessed they are.Don't agree.
There are knobs that support AFL. There are also knobs that support the NRL. No one code is worse than the other in the knob department.
