Sorry Benoir, but as a huge Liverpool fan I am very happy with that news! Ronaldo is irreplaceable (Man Utds Hindmarsh), and I hope it means the mighty Reds can win their 19th title next season (Reds as in Liverpool!)

English football will be poorer without him -like losing Andrew Johns, Jonathon Thurston and Jaryd Hayne combined! :)

Why depressed?

He always wanted out and would leave first chance he could to go to Madrid.

Thats alright. Man U used him for how long and got 160M for him. If they had sold him 3 years ago they would have lost so much money.

As a Barca fan this scares me. A Real Madrid team with Kaka and Ronaldo? Damn...

Still - Messi is still the Messiah.

that is seriously ridiculous money

that would be about $200mill for Kaka and Ronny and they are still after Ibra, Silva, Villa and every other marquis player

they are seriously destroying the sport in Europe

MANCHESTER United have accepted a world record $162 million bid for Christiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.

The United website this evening confirmed it had agreed to the offer. Real now has to come to terms with Ronaldo. United expects the deal to be concluded by June 30.

This move comes just days after Real signed Brazilian star Kaka from AC Milan for $114 million.

Reports in the Spanish press earlier today said Real president Florentino Perez, who has made no secret of his desire to get Ronaldo, has sanctioned a deal that will dwarf the $114 million paid to AC Milan for Kaka this week.

The Sun said United manager Alex Ferguson had decided the time had come for Ronaldo to give in to Real's advances, and did not attempt to persuade him to remain - as he did last year.

The Times said the deal does not necessarily boost the Premiership champion's transfer budget this season, as the record fee may be paid in installments over a period of three, four or even five years.

The newspaper's website added that the deal was probably a sensible one for United, assuming Ronaldo's heart was no longer set on playing for the Red Devils.

It has long been thought in England and Spain that there is a pre-contract agreement for Real to sign the Manchester United star, even though United have continually denied it.

The contract would have to be executed before June 30, with Madrid paying a $52 million penalty if they break the terms.

Perez's predecessor, Ramon Calderon, has persistently hinted that Ronaldo will arrive at the Bernabeu because of work he had already done on the deal last year.

Perez is understood to be unhappy at such a high fee and has reportedly been in talks with United chief executive David Gill over the last few days in an attempt to renegotiate the deal.

But the Premier League champions have refused to budge other than agreeing to take the payments spread over five years, leaving Perez to reluctantly sanction the transfer rather pay the $52 million penalty and have no player.

Real Madrid general director Jorge Valdano claimed today the club are already in negotiations with United over Ronaldo.

"I can't answer any questions about him," he told Spanish television station TVE.

"'I can only talk about players who are on their way here, not about those we are in negotiations over.

"He is a great professional, he dedicates a very great deal of time to his work. He is a great footballer and a very good professional.

"According to the information we have managed to obtain, he is an excellent professional. You don't get the player's body he has, which is a footballing advertisement, without working a great deal.

"Another thing is that his reputation as an officially good-looking guy, and a social or advertising model, blurs his image a bit. He is a great footballer."

The Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo says that Real Madrid representative and a doctor have been sent to meet Ronaldo, 24, in Los Angeles, where he is recuperating after the hernia injury forced him out of the Portugal squad.

The report says Real will move quickly to sign up Ronaldo on $400,000 a week - the same as Kaka -if they are satisfied with his condition.

While Calderon angered United boss Sir Alex Ferguson by courting Ronaldo in public, Perez has not met the same resistance, despite constantly stating in interviews in recent days that he was determined to sign the Portugal international.

Perez, 62, is said to have a much better relationship with the Old Trafford hierarchy, dating back to a time when he chaired the now disbanded G-14 collection of Europe's elite football clubs.

We were never in recession or economic crisis, its just that the rich families of the world told the reserve bank of america that they wanted their money back that the reserve bank of america loaned out to all us modern day slaves. As a result, the reserve bank started s**tting themselves saying they couldn't pay it back because people couldn't repay their loans. On top of that these families own the media who reported we were in recession when everything was fine and dandy, so that they could get their money back. From that everyone of us slaves started to panic thinking, we have no money, we better hold onto what we've got! So we stopped spending money and stimulating the economy, which saw the market start to crash and interest rates drop, so people could afford to just live. From that people started to lose their jobs and it was then we hit a real recession. The market now is already showing signs of recovery as people have started to spend again from the media telling us things will improve. We are merely believing what we have been told from the media that we were in recession. If they just shut their mouths or we didn't listen to them, the world wouldn't be in the predicament that it's faced/is facing.

People will eventually get their jobs back, the market will recover big time, but its all about supply and demand in this world.

In regards to Real Madrid they were able to acquire something very little in supply; a very high quality, freakish footballer in Christiano Ronaldo; hence the high asking price from Manchester United. They have that sort of money because the owners of these glamour clubs if you wish to call them that, are essentially the people who own and control the world, the shareholders. They get what they want when they want.

Fascinating that even since the dawn of time, the world still operates in the exact same way, for all the advancements we've made isn't it? :D

Maybe Man U can finally sign the talent of Dukes and Joey Barton now that Ronaldo's contract money is freed up...

This is a great deal for Man Utd. That cash is crazy and there can only be one winner from it and thats Manchester United.

He's a great player but for the amount of whinging, moaning and self obsession that comes with him for that price i'd take it every day. U can build an entire squad with that.

As for Ibra he'll stay at inter and win us 5 titles in a row.

What conspiracy theory bullsh*t. Certainly there is a lot none of us will ever know about the sh*t that goes on at that level of the social pyramid. I mean your rambling argument makes no sense. Firstly why would the elite want to quash consumer confidence. The more we spend the more they win. Face it. The rich are greedy, and the poor are impatient. If the 'slaves' didn't overextend themselves financially and paid off their f**king debts, and if the rich didn't provide the facilities for this failure, this downturn wouldn't be as defined. It's a boom bust system, its natural.
Also nice attempt at derailing the thread with your rant.

I think there's nothing Man U could have done. The guys heart clearly wasn't in it anymore. If at all possible I would never have sold him though. They can't replace him no matter how much money they have.
Up the Gunners!
