It was my way of passing on a compliment about your knowledge of economic theory. That's all.
Really? So why have we gone through so many Prime Ministers?
This is actually a fairly recent thing, and probably driven by social media. In the 11 years after Keating we only had John Howard. In the following 11 years we had five PMs, one of them twice.
Surely public pressure matters and politicians are ultimately held to account?
They're held to account by merkins who don't understand what's going on though. Shit is f**ked (or at least it appears that way on social media) and people want someone to blame.
Never underestimate the power of a finely tuned bullshit detector.
That is more effective than any lengthy conversation about politics imo. Too often those discussions involve someone convincing the other person that they are wrong rather than listening to see if they have a point.
Its a sound idea though. I'd welcome more sensible conversations about politics.
Most definitely. I've also wondered why we have been hell bent on trying to be in surplus for the last 10-15 years (seemingly to the detriment of everything else).
I'd say they're looking forward to a rapidly growing retirement age population relative to the merkins of working age.
Not always. Particularly if it isn't getting you any closer to the truth.
Yep. Because there's only one world, and only one history, and everything is increasingly interconnected, it's very difficult to even be sure of what is true, much less being able to convince others of it.
