I see all these privileged toss pots marching around here and wanting to stand for something and make life fair for everyone but they don't seem willing to sacrifice any of their own little luxuries. Ukraine have started their first war crime trial. 21 yo russian soldier is charged for killing a civilian whilst “behind enemy lines”. The kid (soldier) says he was ordered to do it after car jacking a vehicle and fleeing in some sort of a Hollywood car chase scene.

Yeah I dunno how to feel about “war crimes”. On one hand you have a kid who doesn’t belong there (if most likely there becuase of his mandatory national military service) and possibly following orders and then you have professional merkins like Ben Roberts-Smith allegedly popping off punters as an adrenaline rush.

Sure ... subtle difference is that Keating was a politician whereas this boofhead is (supposed to be) a journalist. The former is, by definition, required to be partisan and critical of his opponents; the latter is supposed to be objective and impartial. Being an opinionated shock jock is simply being paid to be an intellectually lazy, egotistical, arrogant and often racist bully. There are right wing groups where these sorts of nitwits can mouth off to their cohort to their heart's content. Personally, I find them more tolerable when they have their megaphones and golden microphones removed.

Like most of Murdoch's lackeys he's not a journalist, he's a commentator.

War crimes trials need to go a little further up the chain of command than some young numpty doing whatever shit he and is young numpty mates are told to do.

There's some truth to that, it's just the outcome that's debatable.

It's been a while since I've bothered with the Current Affairs thread, but I thought I'd offer my opinion on the election.

I find these "official opinion polls" difficult to believe to be honest. Every single one has Labor clearly in front on 2 Party Preferred for Almost a year. But every single one also has had ScoMo eithet clearly in front or at worst equal on Preferred Prime Minister. Who seriously would preference Labor ahead of Liberal if they thought ScoMo was the better Prime Minister? No one.

Also, the polling companies have now admitted that 95% of people who they have attempted to poll have either not answered the call or hung up and not responded once they have answered. So the only people they're polling are those engaged. I'd say this skews the polls towards Green and Teal voters.

Preferred PM near always favours the incumbent, win lose or draw.

There's a line of thinking that it's basically got an X point bias, say 9 points as an example, and when you get below that point it's basically not what it appears.

On polling it's getting a lot harder for these merkins, cause landlines aren't representative any more, and merkins will just dismiss calls from numbers they don't know. So they have to weight shit more to try and get to something that resembles a representative sample.

The quality of the polling relies far more heavily on the accuracy of their weighting. We'll see how good that is come Saturday night.

Can anyone explain this to me ? This is not the first time that Tim Wilson has tried to erode family super. Why woukd a government encourage access to super earlier ? Isn’t the idea that we all be self funded retirees and not need a pension.
