But the live ones do. They have their land and sovereignty to fight for.
Meanwhile, Putin is the one throwing anyone and everyone onto the frontlines and subsequently suffering massive casualties and losses of life in the meantime.
More reason to call a ceasefire and try to resolve it.

The ruskies can’t turn the Ukraine into some kind of a slave state.

They will work that out, during or after Putin.

For the moment, we need to consider civilians and as you suggest, soldiers lives.

Putin and co, they have an expiry date.

The Ukraine will be Ok in the long run, but not if everyone is dead.

You just don't get it.
Putin can't be reasoned with.
Ceasefire - maybe.
But he will not give anything up.
We are dealing with a 1939 tyrant here.
The good thing is that the Russians are losing ground and Ukrainians are gaining back territory - their own territory, including parts of Crimea.
The only way to stop this war is for Ukraine to join NATO. The Russians would be f**ked.

Risk a nuclear war, what are you talking about?

Do you think Putin is sane?

The problem with a ceasefire is that the fear is the Russians will just use the time to rearm and consolidate their positions. They have form there.

In the end it solves nothing, so as the Russians aint about to withdraw, the only opportunity for peace right now is negotiations around how much land and resources Ukraine is willing to concede.

So the question then becomes, at what point do they accept rewarding Russian aggression with territorial gains is the right course of action.

And in doing that does it curb further Russian aggression, remembering that they took the Crimean Peninsular and sent troops into Donetsk almost a decade ago, and the world pretty much just watched on.

Can't happen.

That's basically saying we're willing to risk WW3, so back the f**k down. Putin likely won't.

He has nukes.

My take ( for whatever it's worth ) is the war ends in one of only two ways.

1: Russia gets what they want, and Ukraine becomes at best a puppet state.

2: The war drags on until such point in time that Russia is just pointlessly feeding resources into a conflict they just can't see themselves winning, they withdraw and Putin falls out a very high window.

1. Won't happen. Zelensky has made that clear. And good on him.

2. Russia is doing that now. It's a war they can't win.

As for Putin falling out a window, there are dozens who have had that pleasure already, all under Putin's direction. The person who commands Putin fall the same way may very well be worse than what we have now.
It's Russia. A lose-lose situation regardless.
Oh, for the love of another Gorbachev type leader.

In that scenario it's not up to Zelensky, it really boils down to how much and for how long the support he's getting from other nations continues

Yes I know, hence the reference to it.

The person who commands Putin fall the same way may very well be worse than what we have now.

Perhaps, either way if the war fails, Putin's done. He's balls deep here and pulling out would cost him dearly.

On the one hand, people want to argue he’s insane.

In the next breath they want Ukraine to join NATO.

I can assure everyone here, if the Ukkies dare join NATO, we are likely looking at a massive conflict, a fire and fury that the world has never seen before.

The ruskies simply won’t stand for it. They asked the ukkies to stop this NATO rubbish before. They didn’t and they invaded.

Perhaps the end of the world or at least a significant part of it.

That might be ok for a few crusty old hawks stuck in a Cold War mentality, banging on in favour of the existing world order.

But I’ve got kids and other dependents to see into the world before I fall off the perch. I’m not risking it.

Russia could take out Kiev in a couple of minutes I’d say. They are only failing because they are taking a measured approach to their deplorable ambition.

No one is winning this conflict except the grim reaper and co.

Peace talks now, ceasefire, let’s sort it out.

Even if Russia did win what do they think would happen? It would then become a gorilla style war where Ukrainian civilians would continue random attacks in random places.

Russia won't win. Putin thought he would take Kiev within in 3 days. He underestimated the west and it's resolve.
The west does not want to see another WW2.
It is up to him to prevent that.
