OT: Northies paradise lost?

I was going to goto northies on sunday.
What are you all saying? I shouldn't go?!!

It's still a great pub if you don't sit in the nutman section.

I loathe northies with a passion. A fiery, unwavering, scalding passion. I havent been there in about a year, so am not familiar with this Mango Jam malarky, but unfortunately, my imagination is good enough to picture it.

It is everything I despise about the shire. Pretentious rich kids basking in their own glorious insipidness and self importance. It makes me want to vomit.

I once got ejected from there because of a fight that I wasnt involved in, happened to land on my table. My bad. Its on the beach, and you cant wear boardshorts. Your not "allowed" to stand anywhere, and the girls are evil. Too many rules, not enough fun.

Now the bar down the road from me here, now thats a pub. The chicks are all punk rockers, the owner gives out regular free shots, the barmaid has a full sleeve tattoo, and the dj plays a heavy rotation of P.I.L, Ramones, Clash, Joy Division, the Rapture, Minor Threat, The Smiths and Le Tigre.

Oh yeah, and the Botany view. That is an AWESOME pub for a Lou Reed. Super good value. Also check out the Town Hall hotel and the courthouse if you are in the area.

The sound of guitars being tuned
On a happy hour Friday's

A dunny without a mirror
A schooner without fruit
A beer garden in the sun
A new tele from a boot

A pack of smokes over the bar
A jukebox with rock "n " roll
where everyday is Saturday
and we're all on the dole

But now its all alfresco
And 14 dollar food
less beer that costs more money
that's put me in this mood

And now we line like starving
for bouncers to let us pass
So here's where I tell Northies
To shove it up their arse

For me , no . However if it fits your perception ....by all means imagine Caringbah's "stick to the floor show shagpile" and lazy ashtray staff.

I didn't have any one place in mind when I said that .

It could be any old school pub with broken tobacco filtered sunbeams streaming through classroom window frames.

Just last week this was no more evident than when an old mate and I were in town and wanted to get a beer. We wanted one where tradesmen can still eat fish and chips at the bar whilst having a bit of friendly drunken banter with the bar maids.

This was almost impossible ...we ended up in some 3 story pseudo nightclub/suit & tie pool hall with lounges for bar stools and where your change from a twenty comes in coins on a silver guilt tray.

I'm heading south to the last aussie stronghold.

I gotta say Taren Pt pub is the last real Pub around here. It's gone a little up market but it's still just a pub.
