Is it really hard to just block the ball in the final over before lunch? We seem to lose a shit ton of wickets in the over before lunch.......

Ok that was embarrassing. FOW 97, 101, 106, 106, 122, 151, 223, 242, 242.

If not for Mitchell Johnston (77) it would have been a catastrophic collapse.

Clarke needs to stop talking it up and just perform as a captain and with the bat if he wants to go out on top.

Australia had two days but still f**ked it up. I don't know how bad the wicket degenerated but they don't seem to have the patience anymore. Maybe the T20 form and the amount of cricket they play these days has something to do with it. Nonetheless, I always remember Mark Greatbatch saving a test for NZ against OZ years ago. 146 off 485 balls. Not pretty to watch but it saved the match. Now we are 1 down.

Relax. They had no hope second innings unless rain and divine intervention of winning.

Catches win matches and Haddin lost this one.

Better luck next game

ABC news are reporting that Starc could be OK for the second test.

Australia need to really do some homework for the second test. They bumbled their way through the first test and now they will be playing at the home of cricket. Poms have the upper hand (rightfully so) and it will take some measured play from the tourists to even up the series.

Absolutely.
I think we've gone over a bit cocky......well, seemingly so after that first test performance.
Anderson and Broad lift for the Ashes.
Their batsman find another gear.
Their fielding is more like ours than theirs.
They have an Australian coach now. This point must not be understated.
He knows our players inside out, back to front. He may not be able to make the England cricketers better cricketers, but he'll sure know how to exploit our weaknesses, which in turn, makes them look like better cricketers.

This series will not be easy, even though we are a better team than them.

Well, we have won one test in the last 15 ashes tests in England.
