I'm more than happy to see Watson go. He should.

Marsh has been the only credible replacement (as a Test allrounder), and he has been on and off the injury bench. While Watto's recent wicket-taking feats have been unexciting, he can bowl at the Test level and be treated with due respect by Test batsmen. I'm not sure that Marsh can in the long-run, but he's only young and maybe he grows a yard of pace and things change, and maybe he gets a few overs on a greentop.

Sorry Baz, I read into your comments - my bad

If he averages 35 with the bat and 33 with the ball he'll get heaps of chances.

His bowling is a bit of a worry. It is not presently of test standard (for a genuine all rounder), but may develop.

He also has quite an injury history, which hopefully is behind him.

he is still pretty young though, I think he is a talent

Katich was another who worked hard and changed his technique and went on to have a very successful career. The key point is worked hard. Something I really doubt Watson has done.

and Katich was sacked after averaging over 50 per innings in test cricket in his last 3 years in the baggy green. Politics is live and well in CA

Yet they kept Watson on and get these excuses since Katich retired...

* his bowling affecting his batting (failing at the top of the order)
* bats best at the top order (when failing in the middle order)
* didn't have proper preparation, wasn't mentally ready (after failing in a home series)

When you the highest paid cricketer in the country (according to last years figures) I think we just expected a little more from the bloke

If he was in the NRL, He would be the Mitchell Pearce of Origin on Thurstons salary

Watson debuted in 2005. Last year he earned $4.5 million. More than any Australian footballer in any code. The man has been stealing a living for several years. He is crap.

If Clark and Watson paid as much attention to their game as they do to grooming and ads, then they would be worth watching

In the little attention I pay to cricket, don't rate either of them, good once every 4/5,games - both of them

Comparing Clarke and Watson is absolutely laughable, Clarke carried Australia's batting on his own for two or 3 years. Yeah at 34 he is not quite the player he was but his record speaks for itself. Watson bar a season or two has been a constant underachiever his whole career. You are correct, you obviously don't pay much attention to cricket.

Absolutely. I don't like Clarke, but his numbers for two or three years there were up with the best. I like Watson, but he just doesn't have the runs on the board.

I think Clarke should have retired after he couldn't make it through the last Australian summer series.
Leave it to Smith now and get rid of Watson, king of underachievers.

He didn't make that from Cricket Australia. The vast majority is from IPL money for T20 cricket (in which his record remains excellent) and the IPL franchises can pay whatever they like....nobody forces them to pay him big $$$, and from endorsements. Why does that affect whether he should or shouldn't be in the Australian Test team? All that matters is his form, and the quality of replacements.

Your are correct, don't pay much attention , unfortunately I form views on the little I do see and somehow Clark as a person and player doesn't provide me with the impression of someone I would want to play for. Watson is a myth pumped up by his looks and ads.
Apologies to all you cricket nuts, lost interest pretty much when Ithe West Indies fell off the perch. That was an era of great cricket

Clarke is a bit of a douche, but a world class bat and very good skipper. People let their dislike for him cloud their judgement of him as a player.

Clarke is a great player.
I like him. Never understood all the hate for him. Where does it all stem from?

I like him too. I'd say it's jealousy for the most part. Plus oldies don't like young people living it up with models for partners and expensive things.

How dare someone who is great in their chosen field spend money on things they enjoy.

He's a little cocky but I don't think he has ever been arrogant or anything. Like Hewitt, I always liked him too and never really understood why people hated him so much.

Actually they have a limit on how much you can earn. If you earn more than $4.4million in a year, you cannot be in the Australian Test Team any longer. Apparently Rod Marsh was seen discussing this with Watto at training recently - you may have seen the footage?

Watto's body language is bad - he obviously doesn't care for the $4.4million rule.

It seems mostly to come from the media for whatever purposes they have and then probably some Delboyesque cricket followers who judge him on his connection to the Bingle.

Last season he was scoring centuries despite injuries that would mean he'd miss the following tests. A few years ago he was almost Borderesque with the runs he was scoring compared to most of his numpty teammates

Dont criticise me because I dont rate Clark, and I forgot he had anything to do with the Bingle. He just seems an arrogant tool, who in the main doesn't seem to inspire his team or a number of fans

Comparing him to Steve Waugh or Alan Border shows where he seems to be measured, anyway I hope we take out the Ashes and for that he does well, but we can't all have the same opinion , no need to get personal because I am over 50😀😀

Lol, Border and Waugh were both arrogant tools.
So was Michael Jordan, Muhammad Ali, Michael Schumacher, Andrew Johns, etc.
To be great you need to have some arrogance.
