I'm old enough to remember the Dolphins were winning the comp this time last year. We were sitting 8th after round 5, the same points as the Tigers.. Same time in 2023 we were 7th and had won 1 game.

Amazing how narrow sighted and short memories people have... This team almost always starts slow, throw in the typical combo changes, it takes a good 8 weeks to nail down what we are going to look like when it actually counts.

It's like science as new evidence arises so does the thinking. We can only comment on what's happened so far.

Add in numerous teams including the Storm, The Titians, Knight, Dragons have already had a bye.

Thinking back, realistically Penrith in the 2nd half, cleaned up their defense, kept bunnies to 0 and got an even share of the ball.

That's without Pickles and without Clez. So it's not all doom and gloom.

I also don't think Bizza has been quite right all year with that hammy. It needs to be sorted.

Re Laurie. I'm not using regency bias but the bloke has at least a number of brain explosions each and every time he plays. This comment comes from Bloke in a Bar, who generally is pretty kind about how players are going. Then he went on to say, that this stops him from being a good regular first grader.

Sadly I think he's hit the nail on the head here.

I think Cole will stay at 6. Hopefully Pickles back at one. Blaize at 14. Therefore he's cover for Pickles and also most of the back line if needed.

Lastly the players are very open about saying how there defense needs to be better. This is a good starting point.

Very nervous about Thursday night.....but that is normal for me. Penrith will need to muscle up.

There's some creative accounting going on here.

This is our worst start to a season since 2016.
Here's how our first 4 games have unfolded in Ivan's second stint:

YearRecordF/A
20251-3102-118
20243-182-54
20232-297-52
20224-0112-54
20214-0110-16
20203-192-56
20192-239-74

You need to go back to 2019 to find the last stretch of 4 games where we have conceded 20 points per game.
2019 was also the season where we used more players than any other team, and we're on track for that again in 2025.
Oh, and we missed the finals in 2019.

I'm not saying the sky is falling - but we need to be realistic, at the moment, our defence is putrid.
Our discipline on and off the ball is putting pressure on our defence, and we're incapable to defending our line for more than 1 or 2 sets.
Injuries haven't helped - but every team has injuries. And look at the team that the Roosters put up that destroyed us and tell me it's an excuse.
Our points scored in junk time against the Roosters and Rabbits mask some pretty severe problems IMO.

Our entire game revolves around pressure. We hang onto the ball, chase our kicks hard, and strangle them out of the game. If we can't hang onto the ball and are giving away penalties coming out of their end, we don't have much.

Keeping a team to 0 and scoring 18.....is not junk time scoring.

I think everyone is aware of the issues, and know what need to be done.

Paul A try in last 10 mins.....

Leota disallowed try 61 mins.

57 mins BS try

47 mins Liam Martin try...

In the first half possession sat at 30% (your not winning games with that little ball)

In the 2nd half Penrith had 59% possession of the ball and it showed.

Rugby league is a game about possession.

It's all irrelevant. They've lost 3 in a row conceding 30 points a game. There are big problems.

Tell me with a straight face that the Rabbits cared about that 2nd half.

They were up 28-0. There is a reason why a 28 point lead has never been run down. All they had to do is get through their sets and put in a kick. Which is exactly what they did.

Our effort was much better, but theirs was minimal.

It's gonna be another 2024 regular season for us except worse. A bit of a bludger.

Make the 8 and we will be the favourites to win the comp IMO. Early days but no other side is putting their hand up just yet. The other clubs have plenty of work to do. The issue is that these early losses put a top 4 finish at risk which could kill our season. A second chance or week off is an advantage any club would want.
