Let's be honest here.

Drags are up 18 zip here. We could only put 6 on Newcastle. I thought last week would be a 24-22 game I didn't expect 6 points against this rabble.

We had our outs but we were well rested off a bye. And its quite likely a similar team plays against the Warriors in a few weeks. If we can't put in a better showing that should see a change in direction for our top 30. Depth positions that is.

Dragons aren't doing anything crazy either just playing with a little intent. Knights are terrible.

What?

Me: it's his best attribute.

Girds: nah everyone would admit he's a good defender.

Yeah I just did. He was woeful vs the knights though.
A half getting ran over close to the line is normal. He was isolated a lot by forwards being lazy

If you watch SOO and listen to a few coaches, back rowers are now one of the most important parts of the team. Without the work Crichton and Martin put in hassling the inside plays and chasing kicks, the centres would have had traffic coming all night long. In attack, if they don't score they create fast play the balls and create space through decoy runs.

Against the Knights, our backrow was Tago, Henry and Hasset. Only one of those actually plays back row and was a rookie. We were missing five backrowers. You can't win a game without half decent backrowers.

We were cooked before we even took the field. It is only our resilience, that's part of the club's DNA, that we didn't concede a cricket score.

I'll always take the silver lining but I can't describe last week's performance as anything but disappointing. Fair points on backrowers but what about the middle forwards? We got blown away.

Win v the Roosters. Manly was disappointing. Broncos was our best performance since round 1. Then Cowboys was a huge missed opportunity for 2 points. I can see a small upward trend there. I've got belief in a finals finish and at that point we can win a comp.

Rot needs to stop on Sunday.

I agree there our middles are terrible. Smith looks gassed getting out of bed. Henry makes a funny face but not getting much output.

Kai Pearce Paul anyone? Speaking of backrowers.

He looked alright for Wigan. The Super League strikes again. Man I am not a fan of him for Newy. Looks like an imposing bastard but it's not working.

The way he stood there with his hands up for Guthersons try was embarrassing.

Hard not to look at him and not think he might be worth a punt though.

Yeah quite a few players guilty of that at times. Hate it.

Passing off the ground before set me off. And just look at the size of him. Has someone told him to run harder yet? Sounds dumb but just a tad of aggressive and he'd be a massive handful.

I didn’t think we’d be the knights tbh but let’s be honest that performance, with an entire half plagued by penalties, errors and bad defence is typical of our form this year with or without all our best players.

On form across the year we play like a bottom 4 side. Poor discipline, lots errors, weak defence. We suck, that’s just the reality.

So now it is mandatory for a sin bin for 3 consecutive restarts?
this is what Sutton said!
when was this declared?

Another new rule - the Cowboys cannot lose a penalty count and the opposition must have a player sin binned when playing in Townsville.

I wasn't suggesting there is a silver lining. I was just surprised anybody thought we had any chance with the team we put out. I just hoped we wouldn't be flogged. We at least kept the score respectable and showed resilience after a terrible start.

This season we are seeing the combined effects of fatigue for our senior players and the running down of our lower grade stocks. We have very limited depth.

The lower grade development is the hardest to judge. Turuva, May and Crichton were juniors that stepped up to first grade and were able to compete effectively. We haven't seen that with McLean or anybody else this year. The coaches obviously havent seen anybody that is ready to step up. Henry is having a slow second season.

Add in the suspensions and injuries and I can't honestly say I have any idea what this side is capable of this year. They have shown very little, but there has been no consistency with selections. What I do know, without the full team of players we have left from last years grand final, we do not have the depth to make the finals.

The silver lining is what I draw not you. I can't help being an optimist. I support the greatest team pretty much anyone has ever seen in our in lifetime.

You are right its all taking its toll. Add in a shortened pre-season + Vegas. Shoulder surgery to 3/4 of our preferred spine. No home ground. It's not one thing alone but it all adds up.

The depth has done well previously but in a different scenario. We haven't been under much pressure 2020-2024. This year we've been running dead last and that pressure must impact the guys coming in to play.

If we are talking full strength we are the team to beat. Sounds bizzare but 2025 is a bizzare comp. If we had to play a grand final today I'm 99% sure we'd win it. There simply isn't another team showing they are better. The problem now is we are so far behind and any talk of titles is irrelevant until we actually make the finals and then win 3 games to make a grand final.

Tomorrow is as big as last week and a fortnight before it. Gotta win.

Watching the Manly/Broncos game and this Brisbane side would end Craig Bellamy's coaching career with the rubbish they dish up most weeks.

Any coach who goes there is doomed from the start.

So much talent yet so little commitment. Coach killers
