Our Finals Chances.

No, the critical game is Cowboys v Broncos. If the Broncos win that game, we are safe (we'll then finish 8th if Manly beat us and the Dragons win).

Unless Manly beat us by something like 30 or 40 more than the Broncos beat the Cowboys by... which won't happen, but still...

If we make the finals and lose week 1 then so be it. We would only have ourselves to blame for not starting the year properly. Just make the 8 at least so at least the club can prove they're capable of making finals in back to back seasons and graduating to some kind level above mediocrity.... Our record of making the finals since 1967 and that has to change.

Use this as a building year and then maybe we'll actually start next season with a reasonable record in the first 9 games and not leave ourselves with so much to do like this year, which eventually as witnessed today, takes it out of a team having to win game after game after game just to even get into the 8.

Shouldn't last year have been our building year with this year being much better? We are now guaranteed to finish lower than last year.

No we're 6th at the moment, the same position we came last year. Win at Lottoland and we come 6th, lose and we come somewhere between 7th and 9th.

It should have been our building year but our terrible start to the season ruined our title chances realistically. This season is just about making the finals for me now, especially after today. If we can equal last season's result- make finals and win 1 final then even better.

That's fair. We all have our expectations. I just worry that the club will see it as successful because we did it 2 in a row and nothing will be learned.

As a fan of about 30 years, I've learnt not to get hopes up too much. Our best seasons like 2003 happened when expectations were low. Perhaps in 2018 nobody will rate us a chance of winning the comp and it might be our year.

Funny you say that because I feared this game for that very reason. The media started talking about us this week and it just hung over us.

Our young squad doesn't handle expectation well and we seem to play poorly against the Dragons quite often for some reason. At least Manly are a team we tend to play well against usually so I have optimism for next week. I sure hope the Cowboys have already lost so a loss doesn't deny us finals.

The fact that we were ever comp favourites just goes to show how many poor analysts there are in the NRL.

While the level of analysis in the NRL seems quite incapable of remembering beyond the most recent round, it would have had nothing to do with where we were in the betting before the season started. I never saw us above the second line behind the Storm but so many keep mentioning it, it must be true....surely. Maybe someone got a bit excited when we did well in the 9s but then you'd think they'd have made the Roosters favourites rather than us. In any case, it is betting companies who decide who is favourite, not analysts. Someone must have been backing us.

Cleary and May offered very little against St Merge. For us to beat Manly I think the handbrake has to be taken off Carty. High risk and high reward.

Freddie said in commentary that the call came from the bench to let loose half way through the second half which was too late with the weather. This tells me the coach is locking them down for most of the game to our detriment.

Up until that point we were either winning or looked in control of the game (even when we were behind by 2). If Cartwright had been 'let loose' earlier and made an error or two, many would of been calling for his head as well as Griffins, especially in those conditions.

The simple fact is unforced individual errors cost us & we made a truck load of them.

Without Moylan and Edwards, and with a busted Wallace at hooker, I don't have any confidence we could beat anyone.
Same.

DWZ can be damaging at fullback. But he doesnt read a game like Edwards does... and he can be shocking at times. Although rarely in back to back games.

No one else can play wing aswell as him. Obviously Blake will shift there with Whare back at centre. But suddenly we have weakened 3 positions to cover an injury.

Our pack aside from RCG just had nothinf gor the Dragons. Use our backline to justify it all you want... they were completely destroyed by Dragons in Round 1 also because we didnt have Mansour, DWZ and Edwards carrying them.

Our pack is average and rely upon our wingers making metres. We should be getting more from Tamou and Merrin considering their worth.
