Our injuries

I am not saying what type of injuries they are, I never said that, I am saying we sustain a lot of injuries. Using 34 players strongly suggest we have players injured...I suppose form might be an issue but you and I both know that wasn't our major problem the past few years.

I'm not convinced.

For instance this year I think showed how well we handle these situations in relation to Liam Fulton. There was a problem and the club didn't say - "she'll be right". They flew him to a specialist in Melbourne because there is probably no one else available.

The players go to top doctors. They get really good care.

Sometimes this just comes down to luck and certain players being more susceptible to injury. Look at Tedesco compared to Blair. Tedesco is just someone who is more susceptible to injuries at this point in his career. That might change but its not our medical staff causing the injury or adding to the recovery time.

I know its hard to accept because some of you want there to be a bogeyman out there but theres not.

Well to use your own words...we have more bad luck than other teams because we seem to use more players than other teams...you call it luck, I call it injuries.

With the amount of players used (due to injuries) it is no wonder we keep having salary cap issues every year despite it not looking like we have much coin on the field. Our second tier cap keeps getting blown out.

It's no wonder we can never drop underperformers...we have no cap space spare to actually promote someone better than the incumbents.

Now that Gould has come out in the media intimating that clubs might be shifting players around due to cap space issues, hopefully it will gain some more traction and the NRL can review it's policies around injuries and the second tier cap.

the system has a few problems which I've written about.

A squad size of 25 is ludicrously.

Do you know what year it was the last time every team in the comp used 25 players or less?
It was 1950.

There have been just 8 occasions from 2004-2013 where a team has used 25 players or less.

And in that time the second tier cap has increased once, by $65,000, and is still less than half a million dollars.

The NRL needs to increase the top tier squad sizes to 30 and the second tier cap to at least $1,000,000 to fix this stupid system.

OR

Bring back Reserve grade - every club has to have a reserve grade team, with the same name, colours, home grounds draw etc as the NRL and NYC sides.

All three grades have their own separate caps and so long as all players fit under those respective caps, they can move them around between whatever grades they want.

Wow, I have also thought the squad size needs to be increased to at least 30 but had no idea it was that bad.

What the hell is the RLPA doing. If they cared about anything except getting more money for the top players they should of be campaigning for this for years now.

This is an area that has been given little consideration by the league, sure they increased the second tier cap this year, but it has made little difference to teams like WT that have suffered injuries effecting their salary cap. When you add the contracts of Moltzen,Fulton,Anasta,Nofo,Tedesco that are gone for the season its a fair chunk of our cap gone without any allowances or avenues for compensation from the NRL to be explored to cover the player loss.
Apart from the clubs the other losers are the paying customers who are not getting the best product available.

It shows more than anything, that things have been getting worse for us at a sizable rate.

In 2011, we were travelling okay, but by 2013, we were a mess.

Well you'd need to look at who was on our medical staff in 2011 and find out if anyone was replaced & by who. Given everything else is constant & hasn't changed (facilities, some staff etc) it could come down to a few people with less skill & ability than those they replaced.

MU you should draft something up and send it to the NRL, the morons probably have no idea how ridiculous the whole 'top 25' thing is
