Panthers v Cowboys

Great win all round especially Maloney who showed that at this stage he is a significantly better halfback than Cleary. One huge worry to come out of this game is that Mansour is out of sorts to the point he may even be a liability. Some of it is definitely positioning, some of it was just great structure and execution by the Cowboys, but IMO most of it is that he has lost speed, especially off the mark. He was already a relatively slow winger, now he is most certainly a slow winger.

Most people in here remember the 2 tries (1 was not really his fault - just got caught short with Tamou in the bin) but there were several raids/breaks the cowboys made where Mansour just got completely burnt, and it was due to his lack of speed. Luckily on one of the raids in particular the Cowboys knocked on, otherwise it was try time and the cowboys would have been well and truly back in the game.

On Leota, he actually had a decent game but he has got to cut out the silly errors and ill discipline. Early on he was fairly poor, the Cowboys just smashed him but later on he (thankfully) came good. AT this stage I still think he is a weak link in our pack. Would definitely prefer Sammy Mack if he was not injured.

Cowboys gained momentum the very second he came on and got involved.

Our worst sets of the game were while he was on the field. He was the momentim ssinger yet again... only yhe momrntum he gave was to the oppodition.

First touch was a drop ball. Second touch was being driven back 10 metres snd destroying a whole set by removing every ounce of momentum we had.

Throw in a soft penalty to the Cowboys... momentum swung agaist us when he came on. Name one player in our side with a worse effect on us. You deadset didnt watch the game if you thought there was one.

You are one serious sad merkin ...

Seriously enjoy a win for f**k sake instead of bitching about a dropped ball... or a mistake

You are such a little bitch ...

I did enjoy it. I called out our worst player and a bunch of f**kwits are rushing in to defend him and throw other players under the bus. How is that better?

The little bitches are those who can't handle people having an opinion. Have a f**king sook why dont you. You call me a bitch yet you cant enjoy the win because my opinion doesnt match yours?

Lrota has swung momentum against us every game he has played. God forbid I want the team I love to dominate for 80 minutes

You're a muppet. Mansour was worse than Leota tonight yet you've got your sights set on 1 player only.

I never go into a game with my sights set on anyone. If they play shit il slam them. Play well I will praise them.

Hard concept to grasp. I'm sure.

I wonder if Maloney needs to take more of a role even when Cleary is back? Perhaps playing a sidekick isn’t his thing. Cleary still has a lot of time to shift into the role as team leader.
Glad you agree. That is exactly what I said after the Bulldogs game. We were better when Maloney took control. Cleary can't manage the game yet. He just doesn't have the vision and experience yet. The tactical kicking from Maloney was just brilliant.

We lost Yeo for almost the whole second half.

However we didn’t seem like we lost any momentum as a result of any of that. We rolled forward like an avalanche.
When I saw him go off I thought "we are in trouble here". Yeo is such a great defender. But then I saw that they sent on CHN and I went "we'll be fine" he has been good the last few weeks. Sure enough, we just kept going and taking them down. Our pack came of age tonight.

I thought Mansour was fine. Quiet, but was outnumbered for both tries and did the best he could have in the circumstances.

Haven't watched a replay tbf. Just my impression at the time.

It's great to see our depth in the playing ranks start to pay dividends .

The club as a whole has gone up a gear or two , no denying that.

Moses Leota was ok. Yes he made a couple of errors but so did Blake (drop ball), Peachey (high tackle - though I thought the penalty was a bit harsh), even Maloney dropped the ball on the 5th when attacking the line at one stage.

Leota is certainly no Brendan Worth!!

The kicking game was the biggest difference to me, I’m not sure what’s going on with that mid field bomb of Cleary’s but he needs to put it away.

I had exactly the same reaction.

Yeah Maloney did bomb a couple of times but it was only to add a little variety in amongst kicking to corners and even a 40/20.

Leota is what MX says at the moment. Every time he played the ball or made a tackle I was yelling at the TV for him to be careful. The question is whether the club can do what they've done with Kikau and Fish and turn that extra excitement into controlled aggression that doesn't hurt the team.

Still riding that high. I genuinely don't think the team has played that well in 2 years. 10/10 across the park and best of all our pack stood up to be counted. Like I said weeks ago Fish showed he belongs in the middle and Kikau starts.

Watching it again now and while it was a fantastic result we still need a real solution in the halves till Cleary is back imo. Peach simply isn't a half

I just presumed it was done to instruction, but seeing Maloneys' variety and execution it looks like it's all on Cleary.
Or Maloney just did what he wanted at the time and ignored instructions.

Even with Maloney in the team Cleary was doing most the kicking. So he must have been doing what Hook wanted.
