I would have Aekins as FB. Although not dynamic he is reliable and latterly I saw signs of a passing game. I did see somewhere Charlie Staines was due back round 11 ie this coming round.

Staines got 7 day ban for the family over
7 days for not wearing his mask to the hospital

So can't even come into the bubble until next Monday

I want to keep the left side together

Burton would be wasted on the wing. Should be fullback that way we can use his ball playing

I’d be happy to see Burton at FB, but looking at it realistically I don’t see Ivan going with him. So if it came down to a choice of Crichton or Aekins, I’d take Crichton.

Lots of people saying go with the safe option at FB, but what if Edwards got a season ending injury at some point? Would you really want Aekins in a finals run?

Perfect opportunity to blood someone with more skill in the role, in case they’re needed at a more pivotal moment.

Pretty bloody happy with that. The actual performance leaves a lot to be desired but the result is good.

How good was Nathan! That defence is the second half was brutal, and him getting back into the field of play, he really lifted us.

We should’ve iced that game a lot earlier, to many errors in good position in the last 20 and too many penalties in the first half. The cows aimed up but we were punching through them everywhere. We made breaks and half’s breaks all game long, cooler heads and better hands would’ve seen us score 30 or 40.
I’m with you great result, and I think even allowing for some poor execution at times the performance was better than some are making out.

Performing badly and being a bit down aren't the same thing, good teams win ugly like that as well as flashy. Also on rewatch right now I think going into the game with injuries hurt. Edwards seemed not right the whole time, the hammy was obviously bothering him.

Yesterday was exactly the sort of game we would have likely lost in recent seasons. Early injury to Whare, reshuffle required, Edwards then injured another reshuffle all this happening against a side who were really making life difficult. Go six behind early in the second half yet still find a way to win. If your not satisfied with what the players achieved you are hard to please. (I dont mean you personally I’m just talking generally) I was really happy all round even allowing for some poor execution at times.

That's what I mean by winning ugly. To be taken seriously as a top team you've gotta be able to. I doubt we see a game like that again. I dare say Ivan will be more careful with player injuries now we're half way through the season.

Our depth is now about to be tested.

We need to get Jack back. His short stint at the Warriors has been great for him.

Even thou the Warriors got pumped yesterday the radio commentators were talking him up big time.

I didn’t see the game was listening to the call driving home from my sons place.

A fit Jack Hetherington will be important to us in the weeks ahead until we get some players back.

Jack has been their best without question. You can see the Panthers pre season on him.

The trouble with this is that you have to put someone at centre, I'm not sure who but it reeks of danger. I expect we'll see the game plan stuck to, with the backup fullback selected as the back-up fullback. He hasn't done that much wrong.

Yeah I changed my mind about Crichton at FB in the other thread. I’m all about Burton at FB now, don’t rate Aekins much at all. Our attack really improved when Edwards came back, I don’t want to lose that momentum with Aekins.

I think we should have higher standards than “he hasn’t done much wrong”

If you have Burton in 14, you can bring him on at the back if the game is going pear shaped. Which, against this opponent, I doubt it will. I'll be very surprised if Aekins isn't the 1, having played half the season so far in that role. I still remember when Luai was tried at the back.

I think Aekins will likely be selected as well, but I think that’s a mistake. You’re not going to get many better opportunities to blood a new player than this weekend. We’ve got a dominant forward pack, on top of the table and are playing a below average team. Burton, Laurie, these guys are future. If Edwards gets a long term injury I want someone better than Aekins to step into the role.

During warm up he was with the physio doing different stretches

I think Staines is number 2 FB but need Burton playing in other positions

I'd be all for Staines because he's a fullback, if he were available. He would become the backup down the track, given it seems Aekins isn't getting re-signed.
