Well i wish i knew that before i posted off my cheque coz now i won't bother paying my membership as i will never get to a AGM.I am sorry to inform you gentlemen that there is no proxy voting in the Football Club AGM. There has never been proxy voting since the club came into existence in 1947. There was a motion to allow proxy voting at the club in the mid 90's the club under took an investigation on having proxy voting, and on the advise of their lawyers, decided against it. For what reasons I do not know as I didn't push that point.
Well, Twiz has just wasted $75, as would many others, as I believe that the primary motivation of joining the Football Club, was to vote and have a say in how it is run.
He could of course, fly to Sydney, pay for meals and accomodation etc......
Wow, I'm more confused then ever......... WTF? :?
Suity
Yeah... that part did confuse me as well.
Im disappointed TBH
The club of course retains a law firm. Any changes in the constitution need to be valid and correct according to company law, as such they would consult with the lawyers. The advice of the law firm was to not allow proxy voting.
It is disappointing for distance members, but I would think that the benefits of membership far out way the ability to cast a distance vote. If they want to have their say, yes they need to be in the room it has been that way since 1947. Also I don't recall Hellsy's first Notice on this speaking about the right to vote. It spoke about the publication and joining our great club to help support out great club. There are 600+ members and only 100 or so ever turn up to have their voice heard.
Maybe that is because a lot of members live out of Sydney or are members and don't even know it (R. Hadley). The club of course retains a law firm. I'll tell you that unless this is changed in the next 12mths i won't be sending in $25 next year. Whats the point if you have no say?:lol:
Ask Twiz, or parra-matters or any other long distance member, if they are not disappointed in this.
And I bet more than 100 will turn up this year MITS.
These current board members are sh*tting themselves I reckon.
As for the bit in red.......holic has already addressed that. A very exensive badge and annual report. Cut the propaganda mate. It doesn't befit you.

Hellsy said:The $15 ($25 from 2007) is worth it to get these 2 items once a year I think, and if you live in Sydney the AGM is usually on the Sunday before Christmas and you can come along and listen to my Dad make a speech!!! you also get an insight to the workings of our great club. For the first 3 years you cannot vote but after that you can, you can attend the meeting regardless of how long you have been a member, and either way your name appears in the list of members at the back of the Annual Report, and it is really good to see that!!!! (onya Belly, saw your name in there!!)

As to expensive badge, Yeah and that is what Hellsy sold it on in the thread.
Rubbish. I was sold 'cause I want to hear her dad speak!!

I can't think of any other organisation that has a national (or even larger than local) identity that does not allow proxy voting.Must be a blody nice looking badge.
btw, what is your opinion on this MITS?
Rubbish. I was sold 'cause I want to hear her dad speak!!
Suity
He hasn't for the last 2 years.
Well I hope they do for those that want change, but I don't consider todays events as a positive sign in that direction, with only 4 Football club members turning up.
As to expensive badge, Yeah and that is what Hellsy sold it on in the thread. If people expected more, then that is their mistake. See hellsy's comments below.

Ray knows he is a member. As does Suzanne. The Majority of the members live in the District. I did ask that question.
Tis true, I didn't really sell the membership on voting.... and I do still firmly believe that the badge and yearbook are worth the $25.
But............ I am sadly disappointed that they do not offer proxy's, I have always just assumed they would as have every other club I have been a part of....., at the time of starting the thread though I never even dreamed that an AGM such as the one approaching us would have happened!!!
Wow - No proxy's!!
Why does this not suprise me.....
I'm a little disappointed, as this is the first year I can vote (albeit it would have been from quite a distance), but I'll continue to be a member. I agree with Hellsy - it's worth it for the yearbook. I love the club too much to not be involved at some level, and living in Tasmania, this is pretty much all I can do.
One year I might even make it to the AGM for the free schooners.
