Great news about all 4 boys selected but even better news for French and Twal as they were still eligible for the SG Ball competition this year.

Shame that Tepai may be overlooked for both squads.

OA, the article says that Tepai has been overlooked for this squad to be picked in the Senior camp which is the Blues in Waiting camp normally in Jan/Feb. That is a huge wrap for the young kid if true and I'd assume the reason also that Sione Mata'utia and Alex Johnston have been omitted despite both still being eligible for NYC next year. The Blues in waiting is for those on the cusp of origin selection.

I watched the Australian Schoolboys play Wigan's Academy overnight in a great game of footy, i thought Tyrell Fuimoana was the pick of the Aussies, really strong game capped off by a late try.

Dyldam Parramatta Eels District Representative and NYC players Bevan French, Nathan Davis, Alex Twal and Joey Lussick have been named to participate in the upcoming New South Wales Under-20s pathways camp on 5-6 December 2014.

The two-day Pathways Camp at Narrabeen kicks off on Friday with NSW VB Blues coach Laurie Daley at the helm. Players will participate in training and skills work and also enjoy sessions on the type of attitude and high performance required for State of Origin delivered by several guest speakers.

“These youngsters represent the future for New South Wales,” said NSW VB Blues coach Laurie Daley.

“If we want to be successful long-term with State of Origin we have to provide the pathways for our elite juniors.

“For the individual athletes selected to join the NSW U/20’s pathways this is another opportunity for them to further develop and now doubt they are excited by the prospect. Collectively as a group we take satisfaction knowing our Elite Programs are working” said Anthony Field, Parramatta Eels Player Development Coaching and Recruitment.

Field pinpointed that the four Eels Representative players have been working hard in the Eels Elite Programs pathway and their hard work was rewarded with their selection.

“A little over 12 months ago Bevan was running around in Coonabarabran, he has put on 11kg of lean body mass since I saw him play that day,” said Field.

“Nathan Davis not long ago was identified whilst playing Division 2 footy in the PDRL system whilst Alex Twal this time last year was recovering from serious ankle surgery and remained in rehab for an entire preseason”.

“Joey Lussick has had to work hard for everything he has achieved, he like the other boys has benefited from the resources and support network placed around them.”

“Recognising our rising stars and giving them a taste of what it means to play State of Origin and the preparation needed on and off the field is vital. This is a wonderful opportunity for these young players and the sessions we’ve organised are with some of the high-performance team members who helped the NSW VB Blues achieve their State of Origin goals” said Daley.

While the current Australian Schoolboys tour, which features three Eels Junior Representatives, to the UK has ruled out some rising stars, 34 players will attend the two-day camp.

The bit in bold about French is encouraging as his size, or lack thereof, was shaping up to be potentially the biggest limitation in his development.

Anyone have any inside knowledge as to when the profiles will be put up for the 20's. I click on every day in the hope that they've been put up and every day I'm disappointed.

It might be worth lowering your expectations and only clicking every few days.

Dyldam Parramatta Eels rising star Travis Turnbull has been named in the Queensland Murri Under-16s squad for 2015.

Turnbull, a talented 15 year old, has made several representative teams since he was eligible from the age of 11, signed with the Parramatta Eels on a two-year contract commencing in January 2014.

He is among a host of talented youngsters who will play the NSW Indigenous Under-16s side in one of the curtain raisers to the NRL and Indigenous All Stars clash on the Gold Coast on 13 February 2015.

“It’s a real honour. I’ve wanted to play in this side for a while. I wasn’t able to play in the side last year so I’m looking forward to playing in it this year” an excited Turnbull said.

“I am really keen for the game already even though its still a month or two away. I have been keen on it for a while.”

“I am there to give it my all and put everything in for my team and my teammates” he added.

The talented footballer, who has a strong support network of family and friends, is dedicated to the game he loves and has every intention of playing on the biggest stage in the future.

“At the end of 2013, just before I signed with the Eels, I was really excited that I was just about to sign with my first NRL team,” Turnbull said.

“It’s a good experience to be able to play on the big stage and also travel overseas with the Queensland Indigenous team.”

And despite the big wraps, Turnbull’s manager Shaun Pyne knows that the 15 year old is willing to put in the hard work.

“He has had a goal since he was a young boy to play rugby league and he is willing to do everything in his power to make sure it happens,” Pyne said.

“Time will tell, he’s still young and he has got to work hard but he’s happy to do that. I think being in a system like Parramatta is going to enable him to do that.”

Turnbull has been earmarked since he was young, and whilst he is put under pressure with the expectation, his laid back attitude allows him to handle the situation as he lets his football do the talking. However the rising star isn’t afraid to set himself his own lofty goals.

“I would love to make another Queensland Rugby League side in 2015 and then fingers crossed I can make an Australian team,” Turnbull said.

“One of my main goals is to make First Grade in the NRL”.

Pyne believes that Turnbull, despite his young age, has the right attitude and support network to make it in the NRL.

“You look at him and he just oozes class. He can pass both ways, he can kick and he’s just a great athlete. But the best part about him is that he comes from a really good family and he’s a really good kid,” Pyne said.

“Travis could go with the Cowboys, he could go with Brisbane. There have been 9 clubs ringing in the last month to ask about Travis and find out when he is off contract but he is extremely happy down there at the Eels.”

Despite the expectation around Turnbull, Pyne is not getting ahead of himself and is taking it one small step at a time, setting his own goals for the talented youngster.

“Having seen how the Parramatta Harold Matthews, the SG Ball and U20s sides are going, it’s a perfect fit for Travis. Hopefully he gets the opportunity this year to come down and play in the Harold Matthews Cup side.”

Whilst Turnbull moves into the final year of his contract with the Parramatta Eels, the Blue and Gold will be keeping their eyes closely fixed on his road to success.

It'll be interesting to see how Travis goes in our Harold Matthews team next year, without any current knowledge of how the junior rep squads are training I'd say that he'd partner Alex Seve in the halves who was our Back of the year this year in the HM.

The article is very positive and he along with Jesse Cronin could potentially be very good pick-ups for the club.

The Australian Schoolboys have edged out their England Academy counterparts 22-18 in the first match of their 2014 Autumn International Academy Series.
In-form Roosters Holden Cup fullback Latrell Mitchell continued his try-scoring spree of the Schoolboys' English tour with two first-half tries, first through a long-range intercept and then with a strong finish close to the line despite the attention of several defenders.
Mitchell's double and an early try to Tevita Cottrell gave the Australians the early ascendancy, before the England Academy hit back through Oliver Davies before half-time.
The hosts closed the gap with a try to Oliver Gildart early in the second term before the Aussie Schoolboys edged clear again, with Brock Lamb setting up a try for a diving Tyrell Fuiaomano.
The England Academy finished strongly with further tries to Gildart and Jordan Adbul, but in the end it was Lamb's goalkicking that made the difference – with the Australian landing three conversions to the England Academy's one.
The teams will face off in another Test match before the Australian Schoolboys conclude their tour with a clash against a France under-19s team in Perpignan.
Australian Schoolboys 22 (Latrell Mitchell 2, Tevita Smith Cottrell, Tyrell Fuimaono tries; Brock Lamb 3 goals) def England Academy 18 (Oliver Gildart 2, Oliver Davies, Jordan Abdul tries; Abdul goal) at Leigh Sports Village.

Good to see that Tyrell's quick enough to play in the centres for the Australian Schoolboys. He was light on his feet when he played in the NYC this year and against the Sharks I remember him keeping pace with their winger when he made a half-break.

Hope Troy Dargan gets a run in one of the bigger games although it will be hard to break up the Novacastrian partnership of Cogger and Lamb.

Hales: Making every minute count

Wed 17th December, 03:09PM
A A

Dyldam Parramatta Eels Under 20s Coach for the 2015 season Steven Hales is making every minute count. From training the young and talented squad during the preseason to learning from Brad Arthur and the NRL coaching staff, Hales is making the most of the opportunity.

Hales has spent the past three seasons as Eels Under 20s Assistant Coach after being an assistant with North Sydney’s NSW Cup side, and also coaches at Westfield Sports High School.

“I’m thoroughly enjoying the role. We have a very ambitious group and a very talented group of young men and I’m just really grateful to Parramatta for the opportunity and Brad Arthur for showing faith in me as a coach to give me the role.”

“A few of my mates have asked me whether it’s been a big step up and do I see the pressure, but that’s definitely not the case. I am just thoroughly enjoying the role, grateful for the opportunity and really looking forward to the year ahead.”

Hales has brought a no nonsense approach to training and a real team focus amongst the Holden Cup squad. Despite their talented roster, Hales is taking each day as it comes and is keen to improve on their last year preliminary Final finish.

“I can’t fault the boys attitude at training. We have talked about this year about maximising our time and making every minute count and that’s exactly what we have been doing. We get there, we train hard, we rip in and we have a real aim at not just making ourselves a better player, but also the person next to us and I think we are creating an environment that does that” Hales said

“As far as individuals, we have had more of a team focus this year. From us, it’s just about each player being the absolute best that they can for themselves and the team, and the rest will take care of itself” he added.

Hales and the U20s squad are not looking too far into the future, and despite a successful 2014 season, finishing one game shy of the Grand Final, Hales is not setting early season goals for the team.

“I learn a lot from last year. We did pretty well last year and that was based off us coming to training, working really hard and a real focus on being the best that we could,” Hales said.

“We are very ambitious, we want to be the best we can individually and as a team but for us it’s just about coming here and making each moment count.”

Hales is grateful to have the opportunity to work with the NRL coaching staff, ensuring consistency and high standards in the coaching between the grades.

“Brad Arthur has been outstanding. The access he has given me to the NRL side, we are welcome to training to see what they are doing, so for me it’s a great experience and definitely developing me as a coach,” Hales said.

“As a team, we are very lucky. Brad comes down to our training sessions, as well as the assistant NRL coaches coming down. Luke Burt and Nathan Hindmarsh have been coming down from the NRL helping our boys out.”

With a strong calibre of coaches readily available to Hales, he has been learning as much as he can during the pre-season.

“Anytime you get people of that calibre coming down, it’s always going to be great for the team and on top of that, we have Nathan Cayless here on our coaching staff who has been awesome with everything he does.”

“We are very fortunate to have the people we have here at the club. It’s a club that is on the rise and I am just really grateful to be part of it.”

Now hurry up and announce the 2015 roster! :fist:
