Manu Mau still needs to work on his defense- KE has much better defense.IMO
As far as offload goes id also lean to KE. Mau threw some silly balls.
For pure grunt and running game-Manu Mau is a weapon. He runs hard everytime he gets ball. His runs are damaging.Still a lot for him too work on.And more potential than KE-But id say KE is a more complete player at this stage.KE also had a disrupted season and was his debut year.He really cme on the last month of footy. It takes a year or two of first grade just to get up to speed.Longer for the younger guys.

I still reckon Pauli has more potential than any of them including Tepai. He just also has the most things to work on thou cause he has more to his game than the others.I doubt he will reach his stride till he is 23/24. He could be a serious weapon.Big fast strong can offload.

I was reliably informed yesterday that we won't be seeing too much of Josh Aloia in the nyc next year.... The kid is killing it at training and will more then likely be playing first grade sooner rather than later...

Awesome to hear, Stagger. He gives off a similar vibe to Moeroa, in my opinion. He was absolutely relentless in both attack and defence this year with plenty of mongrel to spare. One of the fiercest competitors we have produced in a while as well.

I tipped him as a smokie for the Nines last night but after your post it would seem he has just about booked the flight already with his work on the training paddock.

Over the course of this season I hope we see Pauli given 80 minutes in Wenty per week. His biggest problem is drifting in and out of games, when he's in a game he can tear the opposition with his running and his passing games, when he's off he looks disinterested and doesn't run hard enough.

Pauli's future is the middle, his defence won't be found out and it suits the club a lot more if he does move there. He also has the ability to become one of the better middle forwards in the game. I think you're right that he won't be truly getting to this potential until he is older but as with the bigger kids that have a lot of things to their game they do take longer.

Fantastic news, as Forty said Aloiai is very much like Moeroa. He has a high output on the field, hits hard in defence and doesn't stop pumping his legs in attack. He isn't as physically gifted as Moeroa but he certainly isn't small (looked one of the smaller ones in our NYC team this year but mainly because they were all giants) and is just as good in the middle as he is on the edges. Would love to see him throw some more offloads.

You sure you didn't get those two mixed up?
Edwards' defence is pretty shit.

Spoilt for choice. I agree Alioai was outstanding this year and week in week out was one of our best in NYC until injury struck. His difficulty will be making his way onto the bench in grade let alone starting. I'm glad to hear he is training the house down although with Watmough, Edwards, Ma'u, Moeroa, and Pauli currently ahead of him Then also BA's favourite in Sef Paulo (not to mention Gower, Terepo and Newbigging) it will take a number of injuries I'd imagine for him to get a start. I really rate this kid so hope he is happy to bide his time in NYC/Cup, continue to develop and re-sign with the long term view to being part of a formidable pack for the years to come. Then .... What to do with Fuimoano?

I personally can't see Paulo being used in the stating 17 next year, I think BA using him was out of necessity rather than a preference. Now that we have Watmough in the middle and Ken Edwards who has a better running game and defensive game than Sefa who can also ball-play will more than likely be playing our middle half role next year.

Aloiai would be behind all of those other players mentioned other than Newbigging. I think Aloiai's greatest asset which only Edwards, Pauli, and Gower have is that he can play on both the edges and in the middle. He's only 19 next year so even if he plays more NSW cupthan NYC he's doing better than most other 19 year old forwards.

if im not mistaken you were fairly reliably informed about m'au this time last year...

i suppose that means wenty right, to overtake the likes of gower, watmo, wicks, edwards et al would be something else wouldnt it?

Ma'u is a much better defender than Edwards. Kenny is strong and aggressive but he doesn't have Manu's lateral movement or speed.

I reckon Edwards is an overall better attacking player though. Mad skills.

Ma'u had some very very sketchy games in D.
kenny Edwards was put next to Sandow 1/2 the season, which is some kind of credit to his defence?

I would agree with the Kenny is better in D crowd.

Agreed about Mau's defense being better, in almost every tackle, high or low, left or right, he hits hard with the shoulder. I reckon there is still a lot of improvement in our chairman. Edwards has a bad grabbing tendency in his tackling technique but I noticed he improved over the NRL season with a few intermittent shockers in the D dept thrown in. If Kenny improves his D, especially tackling from his left side and can consistently hit hard like Mau then I expect him to become a complete silky and aggressive ball playing second rower like Glen Stewart and Glen Morrison, reaching just 80% of their best-standards would be awesome. Wonder what influence Watmough will have on Mau and Kenny? I reckon it will be huge. Though Hayne is gone, 2015 is looking up for me, can see huge improvements all across the park. :)

NSW Under 20s Origin Pathways Camp

Matt Duff, Izaac Thompson, Euan Aitken, Drew Hutchinson, Matt Jurd (Dragons), Tom Trbojevic, Zach Nicholls, Liam Knight, Rhys Armstrong (Sea Eagles), Paul Momirovski, Willis Meehan, Grant Garvey, Jackson Hastings (Roosters), Anthony Moraitis, Jack Bird, Brad Deitz, Myles Taueli (Sharks), Bevan French, Nathan Davis, Alex Twal, Joey Lussick (Eels), Robert Jennings, Brent Naden, Soni Hala (Panthers), Bryce Donovan, Bradie Smith (Knights), Liam Coleman (Rabbitohs), Michael Morgan (Bulldogs), Andrew Heffernan, Lachlan Crocker, Tevita Pangai (Raiders), Matt Lodge, Salesi Funaki, Matt Woods (Tigers).

Contragulations to Nathan Davis, Alex Twal and Joey Lussick for their selection in the Origin Pathways camp after strong showings in the 2014 Holden Cup. Bevan French's selection is also obviously exciting and I'm keen to see what he can do in the NYC next year after a great SG Ball season as a fullback and then helping take Guildford deep into the Ron Massey Cup finals in the halves.

The Australian Schoolboys tour to the UK has ruled out some rising stars, while the Blues brains trust will opt to pick the likes of Parramatta standout Tepai Moeroa, still eligible for the NYC, for senior camps.

This is from the same article and is a pretty hefty wrap on Moeroa.

Hang on 40Twenty. This junior reps thread is for discussing who is the better defender out of a couple of blokes in their mid 20s.

Half a season is enough to show he performed straight away. Because he did.

And because he is fully grown and matured I reckon he's more likely to have a good second season than Tepai Moeroa or Pauli Pauli.

Nah Pou.

Sample size is too small.

Needs to play more than 42 games before we can say anything :p

I love the bloke, but all I'm saying is we need to see how he handles coming off a long break due to injury and if he can replicate his form.
