So that was a frustrating half of footy. We turned the ball over via interception a ridiculous amount of times and simply gifted the Cowboys 2 or 3 tries on the back of it.

Although we are doing alright in the ruck our redzone options are just horrendous with Izzard in particular costing the team heavily with his wayward passing. Our convoluted management of our spine isn't aiding the matter. When Nifo Seve came on he replaced Troy Dargan. Clay pushed into the halves with Seve playing at hooker.

We copped a few dubious penalties but on the whole the reffing has been pretty solid so no real complaints there.

Sounds like all the potential first graders are having a go this week even if the jersey fillers aren't.

Aloiai's playing for Wenty tonight isn't he?

The under 20s are bad. Bevan French looks ok but everyone else looks out of their depth.

They are a well better team than this based on what I've seen in the trials but gee they have played poorly today. Can't defend them.

forty20 have you changed your opinion of our under 20s team yet? I have stated all year that they are garbage and have seen nothing to change my mind.

Sorry Noise, will answer your question after the game.

Well words fail me, the Cowboys have scored from the kick off. Fractured chase and a quick pass resulted in a line break straight up. French looks for the jam on the ball runner but there is support who is used correctly and the Cowboys win the 60m foot race to the line.

The worst possible start to the half has been realised.

The conversion is good.

Big metres for the Cowboys as we struggle to put the runners down this set. They are eventually brought to a halt 10m into our half where they send up a poor bomb that is knocked on for a zero tackle to the Eels.

Davis gets in for a run around the ruck and draws a penalty.

Eels on the attack now. Davis takes the tap restart and earns a second penalty. Odd stuff.

Another rap restart for Davis but he uses Fuimaono this time around.

Amone centres the ball before we take it to the left where Dargan is back on (Wtf is going on there?) but we are easily held out. We then execute a sluggish transition to the right. The ball ends up with Tyrell who pwoers to the line and offloads very well to Clay. Clay passes to Amone back to the posts who looks for a quick ball to his companion bookend but in a shocking twist it is intercepted!

Decent set for the Cowboys, nothing fancy but they drive it downfield and find the in goals with their kick. French gets the ball back into the field of play and the Eels begin the tough job of rucking it out but are nailed for a forward pass from hooker late in the count. Clay the culprit there.

Buttery soft there. They held out until the last quite well but the Cowboys run it on their final tackle and their right edge winger has come to the left as the sweeper. Parra slide too hard and create and opening between Davis and Fuimaono that their Cowboys #2 obligingly strolls through to complete his hat trick.

The conversion is good.

36-6 the score.

Another good set for the Cowboys although their kick isn't as effective this time around. Opted for the bomb which Suli takes comfortably.

Davis is getting through a fair bit of ruck work in the second half, handy stuff but he isn't seeing much ball where it counts.

Maddening stuff now, we bomb it on the last but again we present a poor kick chase. Think it was French that chased hard to got a bit of a block but there was no one else in cooee and the #2 for the Cowboys cuts through with ease and then races 70m downfield to score. 4 tries now for the winger.

Pathetic stuff.

Conversion is good.

42-6 for the Cowboys

Miski fields the ball 10m off his goal line after the completion of another Cowboy's set.

The backs all come in to help again with Twal the first forward to take a run on the fourth. Clay is tackled after a dummy half scurry to bring up the last where Dargan, for a lack of other options, bombs the ball again.

No break from the kick itself this time. Instead it come a few tackles later as some lazy ruck defence is punished by the #5 for the visitors. French can't make the tackle at the back and it takes Dargan and Izzard combining from opposite sides to bring him down inches short.

Some nospam29 saves the Eels further blushes as the Cowboys squander a huge overlap and then lose the ball in the contest for the kick.

Finally a small bit of relief for the home team as the Cowboys lose the pill in the ruck 30m out from Parra's goal line.

Suli and Davis take the opening carries before French gets jammed on hard after we telegraph the sweeping play.

We end up picking up a penalty on the following tackle after Dargan gets hammered late. Bit of concern about his left shoulder as he is subbed off. Think it might actually be a concussion test.

Seve on again as a result. We end up creating a bit of a chance after first spinning it down our left where Gafa sends Miski back in field. The ball ends up with Izzard who has several men to his right but opts to kick it very early in the count where it is easily taken in the defensive line.

Another awful option taken.

Some really good work from Davis and Fuimaono down our right edge comes to naught. They combined for a 40m gain without pushing the pass giving us a chance for an attacking kick but ZDC can't produce the goods. He is hit as he kicked it and the ball goes no where for an easy take for the visitors.

The Cowboys have no such quandaries about taking their chances. Another bust up the middle opens up for a full raid down our right edge. French has two men to take and can't beat the odds as the Cowboys cross in the corner despite his best efforts to force the runner into touch.

The conversion is no good.

With the ruck well and truly lost after the glut of possession the Cowboys have enjoyed this half they again steam roll into our half but their kick option isn't the greatest as Miski picks out the bomb.

Parra earn a penalty and will have a rare foray into the Cowboy's half in this second stanza. French gets a nice touch as he steps and offloads to Fruimaono but the Cowboys scramble well to kill the play. Raeli then comes up with an error as he looks to push an offload in front of the posts.

forty20 have you changed your opinion of our under 20s team yet? I have stated all year that they are garbage and have seen nothing to change my mind.

But have you considered why they're suddenly garbage? Half these guys were regulars in last year's top four side. I think the performance of this year's team has been insightful about the gulf between some NYC players and others, and how it is the worst members of the NYC team ('jersey fillers') that are just as important to the team's results as the best members ('academy' prospects).

In order to fit a handful of potential NRL players (on anything up to $30k or more) into the cap ($200k for the top 20) you need a dozen or more jersey fillers on a couple of grand sign on. Those dozen players could vary wildly in ability, depending on where they're from, and how much it costs to get them to move away from their families.

A decent NYC player from North Queensland (say, a high quality jersey filler, with no realistic chance of playing NRL) might get offered $5k by the Cowboys to play for their team. How much would he need from a club in Sydney or even Brisbane to move down there? I reckon it would be at least $10k, and why would a club want to spend that much on a player who won't ever make first grade, just because he is good in the under 20s? That extra five grand could be the difference between keeping or losing a genuine NRL prospect who just wants you to get close to his $25k offer from the Bulldogs.

Another penalty for Parra as French is driven into touch after the held call from a kick reception.

Twal has another carry and chalks up an offload to Seve who is lurking in support. Seve can only make another 5m.

In spite of ourselves we somehow manage to conjure yet another intercept. I think this game may have broken me. The Cowboys snare the turnover as we shift the ball flat down our right. Think it might have been Izzard again. French puts up a truly heroic last line of defence as he chases the ball between two or three different passes before finally helping being the play to an end on our goal line but we are all at sea and the booked for the visitors just strolls over on the next tackle.

The relatively easy conversion is missed.

Despite that the Cowboys still rack up the 50, with the game sitting at 50-6.

Stupid penalty from ZDC. That was all frustration as the Cowboys runner got in his face before he played the ball, baiting out a push from Zach.

Nothing comes from it as the Cowboys lose the ball on the first tackle of the next set.

Another decent charge from Davis as we essentially use him as a battering ram. Sound tactics there.

Twal has another carry before the ball again comes to Davis who has time of offload on this tackle. We get to our last and put in an awful kick to finish the set.

3min to play.
