Supporters will always feel a special bond with a junior of the club. A fans fave player will not be an import... You want to create your own heroes. League isn't like soccer where its international. It is basically a state game and the bragging rights are and always will have a lot to do with your juniors.
Not sure about that one. Some of my current "favourite" players weren't juniors. Manu Ma'u, Kenny Edwards and Beau Scott for example.

That special bond never seems to have bothered Roosters fans... have they ever had a local junior rise to any great heights?

They seem to be counting Jim Dymock, John Peard, Paul Dunn - all of whom had significant time spent playing away from the Roosters?

I'd probably give them Kevin Hastings, Ferris Ashton, and Luke Ricketson as their best local juniors that actually stayed the distance with the club?

(Kevin Junee and Johhny Mayes spent a year or two at Manly, while Fletcher and Salvatori spent time at Souths.)

So you wouldn't count Tony Williams and Trent Hodkinson as Parra juniors then?

They're local juniors sure, but they never rose to great heights while playing with us... so I'd say they don't qualify as players that our fans hold in a "special bond", as has been mentioned?

Full Time

Parramatta Eels 25 DEF Wests Tigers 18

Ugly as sin, and arguably undeserving but we needed that. On to next week.

We're at the game and we didn't even see them kick the field goal, we just looked up and it was 19-18.

The scrum push was awesome and basically won us the game!

I remember he was named in the centres for NYC once back when he was 18 (might've been only last year). That's usually a good sign - not a lot of 18 year olds (players turning 18 that year) play in the NYC.

Anyway he was a late withdrawal on game day.
maybe not a lot of 18yo's play up at your club, but they do at others. the warriors had 9 boys 17 and younger a few games ago

We didn't pay overs, we paid them large sums outside the cap, just like your club. Unfortunately when the NRL came sniffing we didn't have Andrew Gee quit his job and go into hiding to avoid being questioned.

Our squad that has won 10 games (same as the Broncos) despite a huge injury toll contains the following players from our NYC teams:

Radradra, French, Toutai, Moeroa, Mannah, Alvaro, Pritchard, Terepo. We also have Folau, Tanginoa and Ualesi as backups. And we also gave Junior Paulo the arse.
nice. wasnt alvaro a junior bronco. french was a schoolboy union rep from the country. what age did semi arrive from fiji? thats not developing.

Well considering 17 year olds are legally still children, they usually remain where there parents live. Seventeen year olds who are good enough to play NYC and want to live in Auckland don't have a lot of options for which club they play for. Same with 17 year olds who want to live in Brisbane. This keeps their price down for those clubs, allowing them to stack their junior squads.

He's from Mittagong NSW. Poached by the Broncos and then poached by us. Mittagong is in the Southern Highlands, where Nathan Hindmarsh is from.

Turning teenaged rugby players into league players isn't developing? Here's a tip - they will develop regardless of which NRL system they get into. That's why 'development' is all about poaching players with potential. Obviously some clubs have no competition for the city (or country) they are in, and therefore have salary cap advantages.
