Although, not sure whether parenthood puts things in perspective, or the last 30 years has eventually numbed me, but I don't seem to get cranky after a loss these days

Warm and humid conditions greeted the young stars of Parramatta and Canberra as the two clubs clashed in the Harold Matts and SG Ball trials on Saturday at the Marist Brothers Westmead grounds.

Before getting into the notes, I have to make comment on the playing surface. I doubt that I’ve seen much better at a junior ground. It was a seriously thick cushion of green stuff – the perfect surface for our contact sport.

Dave Bayssari would have finished high school no later than '87 as I think he was either 1 possibly 2 years behind me. Big chance we went to Marist as his initial high school finished at the end of Year 10 in those days and most who did the HSC moved to Marist.

The games will be at Neptune Park, Revesby - never scheduled for the Saleyards.

Matts at 9 am, Ball at 11 am. Parra wil be fielding a mix of players and no doubt the Bulldogs will run their strongest team to win the trial, as they do each year.

Report on yesterday's junior trials.

Myles Martin, 14 year old (turning 15) lock from Bathurst starring in the Matts trial.

Charlie Murray, 17 year old (turning 18) half from Wauchope starring in the Ball trial.

Another trial against penrith this Friday at St Pats Blacktown, first game kicks off at 4.30pm

Not sure if it was mentioned but Uinitoni Mataele was the player who scored the match winning try against us in the Matts final last year. Jai Vakai also played in that game. Mataele is from Doony and Vakai from Minchinbury
