2022 Junior Rep Squads

Parramatta Eels are excited to announce its 2022 junior representative squads, in both the male & female teams, for the upcoming Harold Matthews (U/17), SG Ball Cup & Tarsha Gale Cup (U/19) competitions.

In what is a first and sticking with the clubs development philosophy the Harold Matthews squad is made up of 100% local juniors,

The club would like to congratulate all players selected in these squads and wish all players, staff and coaches the very best for the upcoming year.
Our Pathways Programs are an essential part of our club and a key building block in the long-term success of the Eels. Everybody that has played their part from selecting the initial squads through to the performance and coaching staff, should be feeling excited with the 3 squads that are about to take the field to represent the Eels, for round 1 next weekend on the 5th of Feb” Mark O’Neill GM Football.

Eels up 10-6 at HT in Harold Matts with tries to Michael Gabreal and Luke Maroun. Scrappy and erratic game so far but have been impressed by the centre Gabreal who looks a real threat every time he touches the ball.

Roosters win 22-14. A tale of too many errors, especially just after half time, have killed any chance of an Eels win. Roosters look a good team this year with number of NSW & QLD reps and will go close to taking out the comp. As mentioned Gabreal was the standout, halfback Talataina looked dangerous and Matty Arthur went well out of dummy half. Piakula and Funa-Iuta were the pick of the forwards.

Lot of work for for the development coaches you can see the difference in skill between the Roosters and Eels.

Maybe we just needed to recruit better? This is the first time in years our Harold Matts team has consisted entirely of local players. It's an indicator we're no longer prioritising that age group, which is probably a good thing.

Joey Grima said in the lastest TCT podcast that a few of the SGBall players from today’s list have been accelerated through the system. Whilst they are playing SGBall today they will most definitely feature in the Flegg team this year and train with the Flegg team 4 days a week. There are some other boys that have also been accelerated and skipped SGBall like Lachlan Blackburn and Jock Brazel for this year but those merkins are (I think) ahead of this group in their development.
