Boxy, I'm pretty sure you're intelligent enough to know you should show some respect to your elders. Just saying.

I think the Raiders have a great roster - good enough to be considered genuine premiership contenders.

Furner deserves full credit for that but the Raiders have obvious mental (i.e. leadership) issues and Furner's been in charge of the club long enough that he deserves most if not all of the blame.

 Campo - the team leader has not played much footy in the past two years. They are ahead of the Bulldogs atm..Does that mean Hasler can't coach..FMD it's the middle of APRIL..
Puissance de Lune, the 2013 Melbourne Cup winner is still in the paddock

The Raiders have shit leadership because they have had a strong squad (stronger than the Bulldogs) for the past three years, yet can't string more than half a good season together.

They haven't missed the finals two years in a row since 1986. That's a sign of a consistently competitive squad.

Despite this strong squad they have't made the finals two years in a row since 2004. That's a sign of poor leadership.

Hasler's teams are consistent (even the Dogs sitting near the bottom of the table have been competitive in every game), and his teams have made the finals every year since 2005.

Thank you very much for pointing that out...It means so much to me........
About three fifths of SFA...
You can't argue with stats can ya!!!!!!

I interviewed Nathan Blacklock a couple of weeks ago, He was an excitement machine when he played. These days he told me..he couldn't be bothered to watch League. "The game" he told me, "has become too boring". "Every team plays the same, and are relying on kicks to score tries".
I agree with him. The coaches have turned players into robots --- big fit and fast robots, where variety is frowned upon, and those who don't sick by the 'game plan' have a very short future in the game.
That is why I treat it as a sport these days. The teams are so close anyone can beat another on any given day. I really prefer to watch the locals go around. At least they play with a bit of flair, and imagination...and proud to represent their town...

The easiest fish I've ever caught

I do respect my elders IFR33K. But pete abusing me after a light hearted joke was very unsportsmanlike.

The fact is, whether he developed them or not, he can't lead them to glory and it shows through the joint. The roster is far above average and should have been in the top eight consistently since 2010, with regular top four finishes probably justified too at the very least. That they have failed to do anything of note may speak of a bad culture at the club, but the team looks spiritless and directionless half the time. You can blame a number of factors, but the meat of the issue is that if he was at any other club, Furner would have been sacked a year or two ago, and quite rightly too. His results have not been anywhere near good enough given the roster at his disposal and hence my initial - again, more light hearted than anything else - poke at this issue that he won't be sacked because a member of the family has a high up role in the club was very appropriate. If no one believes me, you might want to check the Raiders forum (on LU or elsewhere) over the past two years; that will tell you in greater detail than I ever could.

And comparing Bellamy to Furner is absolutely stupid. Bellamy has led his team to glory on numerous occasions and his team is consistently at the top of the table; he also makes superstars out of previously maligned players. Furner has helped the current crop into first grade well, but he didn't develop them himself; juniors like Dugan, Croker and Williams dominated the lower grades well before Furner ever got his hands on them. If Furner actually manages a premiership or minor premiership by the end of next season, then perhaps a slight comparison to Bellamy can be made. Otherwise? Tell 'im he's dreaming.

What is the job of a HEAD coach.....???? I didn't reply because you 'baited me'. I replied because you were WRONG and I wanted to set you straight. If you do not correct a misconception, it grows and grows and grows..I see it every day in Politics and Life. I do not like fabrication of stories being posted as fact - like the claim of nepotism at the Raiders, ie David keeping his job because his brother is the boss. Don is not the boss. JR (John McIntyre is). Don answers to the Board of which JR is the Chairman.

Believe half of what you see, and nothing of what you hear. Work it out for yourself..Don't be like a sheep, and follow blindly..Use your own imagination. We're all individuals, we're all different. Don't let anyone tell you what to do....AND THAT INCLUDES ME.

Oh dear...someone doesn't understand the meaning of the words "humour" and "sarcasm", obviously.
And that last part? Really? Where on earth did you feel that was appropriate to this discussion?

Pete, I admire you I really do. I admire loyalty and integrity. I reckon you have plenty of it. However from what I have seen Furner is an average coach with average results. Plenty of players have gone backwards under his leadership. Just my opinion.

Raiders have not been a serious contender for several years even with a pretty good squad - most clubs have sacked their coach if they are not a contender after 2-3 years yet raiders have not.

Apart from knights/penrith who have both sacked their coaches and maybe cowboys i can't think of any other side other the canberra that has not been in a GF qualifier over the last 5-6 years. Yet Furner remains as coach - don't know how ? Oh yeah forgot his brother is the boss

Humour? Sarcasm? Nah ,I'm never grumpy..Life is too short to be grumpy over sport. Been there, done that....and then I grew up..
It'll happen to you too Boxy..Just let it happen naturally..enjoy the ride...

I support whatever team I like..Find it easier that way...less stressful..
Turncoat!!
