Parra Pete,

No matter what you write online here, I and many other know that you will not depart the Eels as a supporter, it is in your heart mate. Anyone who is fair dinkum doesn't walk away from their club just because the you know what hits the fan. A supporter is a supporter through and through just like I know you are.

If I could hang four words within the Boardroom right now, they would be :-
1) Standards
2) Belief
3) Focus
4) Communication

We need to set some standards and stick to them to the end. Secondly, the belief needs to be what is followed and not changed consistantly after saying something else. Focus needs to be maintained on the end result and on word number four, there needs to be an understanding of when to communicate and when to remain silent. The speed in eliminating a coach was swift, I just wish the same could be done to any individual that is causing damage by spreading lies, deceit or any information that should not be being put out there that brings turmoil and chaos in record speed.

Finally, the office, board, administration side of things (everything non football playing related) really needs to understand the following :-

"Goals don't inspire people. VISION Does".

This post isn't a shot at anyone, but I believe that the majority of the players put in this year and should be congratulated for doing so. Some have also departed and I wish them all the best. What happens off the field should be dealt with a bit better I agree, but what is now done is done. Tonights decision did surprise me as well but it doesn't really come as a shock. I am actually contemplating now running for the board come April 2011.

Sums up Fitzgerald perfectly.

Its great those days are over, and underachieving coaches are moved on regardless of whether they are the CEO's mate or not. Remember the days of re-signing Daniel Wagon? Long gone. Mateo and Inu - errattic at best - were never going to find their best in a Parra jumper under the old "Fitzy's mates" scheme. And face it - Ando was one of Fitzy's mates - it's how he got the job for starters.

Obviously can't disagree with you. Howver the constant leakings to the media from board level about stuff that should be confidential is a huge worry. This is not a once in a while thing, but week to week. Even the CEO of Pirtek is making comments to the media which should be kept confidential. Fair dinkum that is an absolute joke, completely unprofessional, and does our club no favours whatsoever.

LOL, lotsa luck on that one sport, it's all good and I did understand what you meant anyway :D

Cheers CrazyEel, I'm still a young(ish) whippet who forgets my old highschool history lessons too quickly and presses 'Submit Reply' too soon. You could've left me out to dry and I appreciate it for you not doing so.:thumn

Anyway, tis a sad state of affairs that Anderson is gone and I do hope that whichever poor soul replaces him is not held to the same ridiculous standard (be it a new board or current) as we will be going nowhere fast with a new coach every year or two.

I am actually contemplating now running for the board come April 2011.

Why doesn't that surprise me.
Who will be with you on your team, or are you deciding to run as an Independent?
I heard today a recent former player is also considering running. Any connections?

Pete will stay, in heart though maybe not in mind.
But stuff this, this is a joke. This isn't what a club is meant to be about, my tiny country town club has greater sense this this sh*t. What's happening is everything that's wrong with the NRL at the moment, this absolute business crap where money is more important than the actual football.
I will not stop supporting, but I know if we win the premiership next year, it will always be tarnished with this crap that happened before it, and worse of all, I think the players will feel that way too.

Bloody hell, didn't see this coming! There must be more to the decision than on field performances, surely?

This club is heading towards a civil war as the Empire is preparing to strike back.

Our biggest battles in 2011 will be off the field.

Suity,

For a long time, I was planning on staying out of things, but a few things popping up in the media lately as well as tonights story has cemented it in my mind to do this. Right now at this point in time, I suppose you could consider myself an independent. Who you heard about today, I have no clue as to what you are talking about, so no connections there. Blame, justifications and complaints really annoy me just like it seems to annoy 99% of everyone else on here. It's time for a bit of honesty, truth and an open strategy that is maintainable and judgeable against.

Bring on April.

Really, tarnished by what - a business decision?
Surely must be, because it can't be tarnished by a salary cap breach, or an alledged rape case at a pre-season trial, or players sh*tting in corridors of hotels.

Tarnished?????

should be interesting when player contracts come up for renewal, how can ozzie convince Hayne to stay for loyalty over money.

Do what I say not what I do.

If they want to treat it as purely business expect the same in return.

I know how the election went only because I'm old enough to have voted in it and was one of the few enraged enough to actually support Gough, Fraser won in a landslide. I also have no desire to leave anyone out to dry.

There are two seperate issues at play in all this for me, one is the sacking/retention of DA the other is the performance of this board and they are not necessarily one and the same, to me at least.

I actually think DA brought much of this on himself, regardless of what was going on in the background, and should be judged just the same as Hagan was after his 2 years.

As for the board, while I agree with them on this one issue I don't on most others and feel they have royally farked up over the course of this season. Osbourne is an amateur and should be immeadiately punted for the same non performance reasons as DA IMO. I will vote for any worthwhile opposition that is not aligned with Fitzy at the next elections. I had 30 years of the same sh*t under Fitzy as you are now experiencing with this board. Give me a decent choice and I'll take it but there is no going back for many of us.

Col,
I tell you what I am - all the "Disses" - - disappointed, disgusted and disillusioned.
As you say, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the Eels..you just can't go Cold Turkey after 50 years..but I couldn't be bothered with the current Club. Too many leaks, too much Press talk, and a desire to implode. It is just not the same as what I was brought up with.
The Club lost so many good men at the supposed clean out. The supporters are starting to pay now for that clean out.
Oh for the days when decent people like Jack Boyle, Don Ritchie, Billy Rayner, Stan Simpson, Spencer O'Neill sat on the board. Everybody knew them to be men of integrity, people who would honor commitments.
People, who supporters could be, and were proud to have representing their views. They were REAL people who didn't have to tell anyone that they had Pride, Passion and Performance as their 'catch cry'. They demonstrated it EVERY day, by the way they conducted themselves in day to day lives.
The day the Club punted Denis Fitzgerald because of supposed feuds with high profile ex players is the day the Club will long regret. Fitzy might be right.
The Club mightn't be around for five more years..the 'white ants' seem to be doing a great job.
So bloody sad to see what is happening to a Club, I grew up loving and supported fanatically for 50 years. I can remember how excited I was when the Club made the semis for the first time in 1962. I can remember the day Paul Pyers had his jaw broken in the first game of the 1960 season at the SCG by Norm Provan. I can remember Jack Argent signing Ron Boden as Captain/coach whilst on the 1959 Kangaroo tour and getting fined 50 pounds by the ARL, because he was Tour Manager..But Jack got him. I can recall matches from the 60s like they were being played now. No body could EVER accuse me of not being a TRUE BLUE supporter.
I remember travelling to Newcastle by Steam Train to watch Parra play Newcastle in the State Cup Final...
I supported the Club from the days of Ron Boden, Jack Argent, through the Thornett era, through the heartbreak of the late seventies, to the highs of the Jack Gibson early eighties, right through Smithy's time up until now..Devastated.
Gives me the sh*ts.....
I actually heard on THURSDAY that Daniel was going to be speared. How's that for a leak......
