What's with all the residential skyscrapers being proposed in Parramatta? Do they want to turn it into a ghetto or something?

I'm on a roll tonight.

My V6 camry says up yours
Strides I had a 95 Camry Vienta V6. I was one of the first victims in Australia that had that surging accelerator fault that made me crash into my house through my garage. Neve bought Toyota again.

I see where both Suity and Phantom are coming from re: the Tower. Ultimately it will come down to the standards that those approving it are willing to accept.

SE Qld has seen more than it's fair share of large tower developments over the last 10 years. Some of them are immaculate and have added significantly to places like Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Others are absolute soulless shitholes that are virtually falling apart less than 3-5 years after they were built. All thrown up quickly and on the cheap.

Hopefully if a Tower is built in Parramatta, it is based on a sound business case and developed to the appropriate standard so that it becomes an asset that everyone is proud of.
Thanks Gary. I base my fears for the future of Parra on my observation of the standards and types of development that have been (imo inappropriately) approved around Sydney under current (lack of) development controls and policy in recent times (past five years or so).

There are some ghetto-like areas that have been created by new residential accommodation clusters of under one third the height of that proposed for Parra. Here's hoping some better standards and controls miraculously apply, and not simply greased wheels to appease fast bucks for the developer companies.

Here's one strides... I took a wrong turn down this land locked dead end street one day, and couldn't believe my eyes. It was bin day, and you literally couldn't turn the car around because of all the bins standing on the street (because there isn't enough sidewalk room for them to be left there either).

22 Mandemar Avenue, Homebush West NSW 2140 - check it out on google maps satellite view (that dirt area to the left is now full of more towers), or take a drive there one day if you're game....

Yep... but just take a look, or go there Strides.

What makes them ghettos is the population density, wall to wall concrete, lack of natural light due to tower shadows, lack of open/green space, not to mention access to infrastructure, services, transport issues (one way in and out of that Homebush West one and heaps of cars with that many high towers), the list goes on.

But the developers are happy, and so are the people that bought off the plan... until prices stop going up and they realise what they are stuck with in five years time etc etc. Repeat the same cycle for these phallic megatowers in Parra that some people are creaming their pants over.

Ive never lived in a unit - tbh i like a bit of space and dont think unit living would appeal to me

I know the wolli creek area ... and yeah i think its nuts the amount of buildings going up there, but i doubt i would class them ghettos ... the place is a mess cos council has done nothing to keep roads satisfactory.

But people seem to believe australia will fall apart without population growth ... and every f**ker want to live in sydney or melbourne ... so i dont see everyone fitting without substantial amounts of units .... personally living 15, 20, 50+ stories up wouldnt appeal to me - you'd get blown off your balcony (if you had one)

I had a 98 V6, even at over 200,000km the engine was so quiet you couldn't tell the car was running. Good car, but a lot of the people who buy them don't seem to know where they are, or that there are other people on the road.
Well frankly all you other merkins on the road should get out of the way of my magnificent camry
