Parramatta Stadium

This grounds capacity is no where near what it should be. How many times have we been told it's a sell-out when it hasn't, and because the capacity is limited, people like myself don't turn up due to percieving it as full?

21,000 is just not enough to accomodate Parra fans, if it was 25,000 i could live with that, but a succesful Parramatta side like the 80's will have almost 20,000 there each week, and alot more for the derbys, big games etc.

Is Dennis going to add more seats to the ground, or are we going to have to keep experincing the so called "sell-outs" when in reality they aren't?

Parramatta have always been big walk up fans, why not accomodate this just to be sure, and not to disapoint fans like myself.

A great stadium, lets make it better.

A few years ago when they added seats behind the goals, I was under the impression that eventually they would head towards making it a proper stadium with stands all the way around. It might have been in fitzy's masterplan of eventually having a super 14 team playing at PS.

I hope they do add extra seating though, cause 21K just aint enough.

But on the other hand... we might get one or two "sell-outs" a season... is it worth spending all that money to make the stadium bigger for a few games a year?
The fans would probably say "Hell YES", but from the business side, it prob wouldn't make financial sense.

Maybe the fans need to start making the stadium sell-out on a more frequent basis first.

That's it.

If we can get a roll on next year who knows how many times that may happen. If we sell out a few (Manly, Bulldogs are usually certainties depending on form we get close with Dragons, Tigers and Penrith) then perhaps a few big games throughout the year then at least the fans that miss out will start making some noise in media outlets.

Believe me once the media gets hold of it, and I don't know SFA about politics but in a marginal seat like Parramatta coming into an election (???) i'm sure the politicians would use it to win votes.

If Parramatta were in the top 4 midway through the year and we had our next 5 home games against Canterbury, St George Illawarra, West Tigers, Manly & Brisbane.......do you think we would attract 20,000+ to these games?, 100% absolutely!

They spent money reducing the stadium didn't they?, why not increase it OR piss off those signs on the hill areas, and make the grass parts apart of the stadium aswell to view, just a waste of potential revenue.

Yes but you cannot pick the draw like that......

I'm not disagreeing with the idea.. I just don't think on current fan turnouts it is warranted, if more fans would turn out through good and bad times then it would be better for everything

Hellsy, you no aswell as i do that Parra's figures have struggled since the new stadium arrangements, and a big reason for those bigger games is that people are worried it's a sell-out when it isn't.

I no a heap of people that when there is a chance a game may be a sell-out, they haven't gone...and then the crowd figure is posted at 16,000, thats including myself aswell.

How much would it cost to put 2,000 seats on each hill?, surely not an arm and a leg, and look at other stadiums like Kogerah, Win, Campbeltown....they have all increased there grounds in the past couple of years, why are we doing the reverse?...actually why did we even get it all seated anyway?

See, I actually think that crowds are down because alot of Parra fans are fickle, not because there is not enuf seats on the hill...

In any case there are plans to put more seats on the hill, MITS has more details than me but I think he said the council has approved

Thats why tickets are sold thru ticetek.. To say you dont come to a game in case its a sell out is a cop out IMO. Those who really want to go to games but are "worried" about it sellin out would be best to pre purchase their tickets and guarantee themselves a seat

Okay, Well there has been approval for the first part of an all around Stand on the South end. This will also include a New Larger Gymnasium and a Function room that can stand between 3 and 5 hundred people.

The Council has approved it and now we just need the funding to break the ground. Earlier in the Finals, Holic mentioned that there is a new scoreboard on the north Hill, This would be there as a replacement for the original score board that has been in operation since 1986.

On your point about having a huge walk up crowd, this is true but also is something the Club has wanted to change. Having a potential sell out on your hands is great press and if you are being honest with yourself the $$$$ coming in from the people through the gates is Nothing in the scheme of this club when you consider the hiring costs, that's right we have to pay to play there. On the other hand clubs like the Dogs, and Bunnies get paid to play at their venue, but they also don't see a cent from the gate and only get a Bonus Payment depending on how many people they get (over 30,000 brings the payment).

The Hint of the Sell out is when tickets are down to 2 thousand so if we hint a sell out, we will get 18,000 at least.

The Stand in the south will also be integrated with the Cronin and Thornett Stands.

To be honest though, the plans for a large 2 tier wrap around stadium has been the plan for Parramatta Since 1982.

As to not Turning up on this Hint of a Sellout. . . Well that is your and your friends opinions and rights, but we still sold out twice this year.

Sorry Ron the only way you can say our crowds have been "consistant" since 1986 is if you mean we always get more than 4,000.

Our supporters aren't fickle Hellsy, our crowd figures since 86 are very consistent.

I would suggest our crowd figures drop away quicker than most when we're not winning.

To fish and Mark in relation to being fickle?, thats absolute BS. We have a consistant turn out all the time no matter what our results. for example, in 91 & 92 despite coming second last our crowd averages were around the 11,000 mark, in 95 when we won 3 games all year, our averages were 8,500 plus. Since then our averages haven't dropped below 10,000, and evem when we haven't made the semi's since, our crowd averages have still been around the 11,000 to 12,000. Hows that fickle?, fickle is teams likethe Roosters and Canterbury who've only up untill 4 years ago never had a consistant crowd intake, but with consistent results they managed to increase ther crowds significantly, how much success have we had since 86?, so to call our supporters fickle is just bs, we've been extremely consistent regardless of no success.

btw

Nikki, i live an hour and a half away, most of the time i can't make the games due to work, like most people up here working shifts, i cannot book tickets when i don't know when i haver to work or finish work, thats why Parra does have a massive turn up gate, beacause many of it's supporters are up here and have the same difficulties in getting to games, hence why there is a huge walk up always at Parra.

The only consistent figure I think we can rely on is 9,000. I've been to quite a few 9,000 crowd home games since 86, mostly at times when we weren't travelling too well, with the combination of bad weather, night game, and a way out of town team.

I remember the first game v Saints in '86 and later that season v Souths where we had crowds of 26-27,000 years before the hill seating was introduced. Am glad there are eventual plans to extend the capacity with a tier stand on the South Hill. But we need to get closer to 20,000 a bit more often before the extra capacity becomes an issue. As MITS said we pay to play there, and need to maximise the gate money we get for each game - probably why Denis spends time tyring to make low drawing games v out of town teams seem controversial, to attract the casual fan?

We will always have fans that don't or can't get season tickets, and will want to walk up to certain games as late as possible instead of booking ahead. I guess the message for these people who don't want to miss out on a certain game is not to let media reports stop you from trying to turn up on the day? (As long as you can handle the disappointment on the day of not taking the responsibility of acting earlier to book tickets if a game doies end up in actual sellout.)

Just noticed you're living at Terrigal Ron, and have late notice of work availability. I feel for you but a quick call on the day before or the morning of should be able to give you the info you need,, if not allow you to book and reserve any remaining tickets?
