Yes but after 25 years it is ingrained into the Mexicans, there is also a difference in sporting culture here in Sydney, to put it nicely in Sydney there are other things to do instead of the football.
I know the membership numbers are huge in Vic, I bought something at the Hawks shop on line a few years ago, I have received free newsletters and the membership promotions NON STOP since then. For the record, Hawthorn crested 50,000 members last year after the Grand Final Victory. This year they are only up to 41,000. Now I wouldn't exactly call the Hawthorn faithful fickle, but still it is a big swing.
Its fine to repeat what the telegraph says, but there is still a very long way to go, and then you have to consider other factors and costs to clubs like ours that clubs like Canterbury don't have to suffer.
If Parramatta ever crest 15,500 ticketed members (75% of the Stadium which a current board member has told both Suity and I is the goal) I would be the first one to congratulate the club, but I can't see it happening in the next few years. I hope I am wrong, but until then we will need money from other sources as well as membership.
Either way 15,500 would still not carry a loss of 5 Million a year the Leagues Club tips in for free. Indeed that would generate a "Revenue" of about 3.2 Million dollars, then you have to take out the $ 400,000 (game day only) in Stadium rental fees, then there is the costs of producing the other "Parraphernalia", that goes with your membership.
At the moment, the Membership debate still doesn't stack up. Indeed even if we were to get the richest sponsors in the league it still doesn't stack up quite yet.
The other issue is, one of the Driving forces for membership is to share the experience of a packed Parramatta Stadium. If we were to ever be like the AFL clubs we would need to have more seats available at Parramatta than the 20,000 there are now. Then you are turning people away from Ticketed membership because our Stadium just doesn't hold enough people. Maybe by the time we get to those sorts of numbers they will have added the 6 - 8 thousand more seats the end grandstands are supposed to generate.
At least we are now taking alternative revunue streams seriously, and the pokies only mentality is dwindling.
TFFT.

Bla bla bla bla...league needs "can do" types of people, who can see beyond the status quo, that can forge a new and grander future for the game. MITS I am not trying to be rude here but since I have been coming here and reading your posts, which I might add are sometimes very intelligent and informative, your comments are almost always so very status quo.
found the article, I hadn't seen it previously.
Nothing in it really and I imagine he was there in his capacity of a Stadium trust director and was checking out the facilities.
Nowhere in the article did I get the feeling it was generated by DF himself as a PR stunt from him, actually he seemed to be trying to deflect any publicity or headlines.
I'd like to know when we had a pokies only Mentality?
$50 Million in diversified property holdings, a 20 Million dollar business property development, 5,450 Season Ticket Holders, and new sponsors signing up before the season started.
That was 2008 under the Old regime.
In 2010, what has changed, apart from 500 more season ticket holders, and the faces on the wall in the foyer.
With the swing from an average 9% down on property values in 2008 to up 12 % in 2010, the property holdings value might indeed be higher.
I think saying we had a "Pokies Only" mentality is ill informed.
more prawn and porn nights
The same, and it seems that quote will go down in infamy, but I am sure we will all have a huge party when we are competing in the 2014 premiership as Parramatta the stand alone entity, just to stick it to Fitzy.
Still, that same bloke was doing a similar thing to Ossie, just not to Ossie's extent (flying to India) and I remember the Mixed feelings over the Ads. Some calling them a waste of money.
this may be because the job was split in 2, allowing the football club CEO to concentrate on team matters.
The leagues club CEO is still on about pokie tax and "dramatically cut support for the rugby league team" and "face difficulty remaining open".

This is where the NRL needs to grow some balls.
Every other competition in the world is supported by TV MONEY. NFL, Premier League, freaken the gay games (AFL).
Our next TV rights has to be massive. HAS TO BE!!!! And the Money from this deal goes directly to the clubs to cover all the salary cap and expenses.
Nothing, you know, aside from the whole membership change which was previously in the too hard basket. ;-)
How about you play the ball and not the man, Do you have any answer for how we are going to raise the extra 2 million or more required to run the football club if we manage to sell out Parramatta Stadium with ticketed Members? Because we are still coming up short on those speculative numbers.
Membership Change, Please
They have changed the name and given you a "free" membership to the FC for an increase equal the FC's membership dues.
Will be interesting to read the FC financial report next year, I would expect a grant not only in line with last years, but increased thanks to all those members fees flowing through. Funnily that money doesn't go to the NRL or NYC sides now does it?
Oh wait you were most probably fishing.
Ah MITS I don't know if you are aware of this, but that is why we have elected new boards and Ozzie is doing the things he is doing. No one said it is easy, all I am saying is, if every other major sport can do it then why not us. Some teams and their management may very well fail and fall by the wayside. What I am saying and others like Todd Greenberg, Shane Richardson and Ozzie, is we need more and sustainable revenue streams other then pokies, which massively increasing membership is a huge part of that. Then maybe we won't be end up a casualty like someone had once predicted.
Well Mark, having STH holders automatically being FC members was discussed on here for many years. All too hard we were told. Cant be done. I remember Ovo brushing Stagger off about it on the forums (probably in that deleted thread) prior to the elections.
Given the restructure and rebranding of the membership packages, I would say yes, it is quite a significant difference than before.
good to see your not biased and read the article before stating what DF should have said.....oh wait.."I just read the online headline".Well I wouldn't know exactly why he was there, cause I just read the online headline. I refuse to click on any links in any online paper that is promoting other sports at the expense of Rugby League. Maybe if everyone did this they would soon get the message that the public have had enough of their sh*t and the free ride everyone is getting of the back of League.
But back to Fitzy, if he was there on official business, then he should have stated it very clearly so as the press and/or AFL couldn't get any real mileage out of him, he has been around long enough to know better. Something like "I would have loved nothing more then to have been able to watch my beloved Eels play but work has gotten in the way this time."
You and many others seem to think Membership is a White Knight that will save us,
so from that $280, you need to subtract the cost of the merchandise and advertising,I'd like you to quote just ONE person who has said that.
It is not, but it is a step outside the square.
I've managed to coerce 4 people who are massive Parra fans but rarely go to a game, to buy memberships. There's $280 the club wouldn't have normally had. It all adds up mate. And, it's money the old regime couldn't have been bothered chasing.
