Parramatta..the place to go for pensioners

What is it with your CEO's obsession with oldies??

Orford, Gower, and Barrett the latest 30+ dromedarys being considered.

Is Ossie looking at the Gold Coast and thinking you have to be old to be successful??

Seriously Parramatta has lost the plot. You produce all these good kids and let them go when they're ready to explode, and bring in a bunch of old has beens that are only thinking of retirement money.

You guys should organise an extraordinary meeting and make some changes or you will be making up the numbers for many years to come.

im thinking more of a fan rally in the leagues club carpark and making alot of noise and waving around crappy signs and banners instead of the extraordinary meeting , its more effective

Rumour has it that we've finally secured the signature of a mature halfback to mentor our team. Look for contracts to be signed on Wednesday.

Seriously, what do you expect, pull a half out of a hat or something, we are chasing all that is available at the moment, who else on this green earth could we chase?????

It's not so much that Snoochies, it's the fact your squad is so old already:

Moi Moi
Hindmarsh
Burt
Grothe
Maitua
Shackleton
Webb
Robson
Tahu
Graham (reportedly)

These are all guys that are 28+ with quite a few on the wrong side of 30. Add Gower and Barrett to that and you have the NRL equivalent of the Golden Girls!

I hope we can coax Bea Arther out of the grave - she'd do wonders for our halfback situation

Well they say we need a good 1,6,7 & 9 to win a premiership....

I dunno where the rest slot in but Blanche can be the hooker...

But then you add in the Under 26 year olds of

Jarryd Hayne 15/2/1988 - 23
Justin Horo 7/9/1986 - 25
Tom Humble 5/11/1988 - 23
Matthew Keating 4/9/1986 - 25
Taniela Lasalo 23/9/1989 - 22
Tim Mannah 15/2/1988 - 23
Manase Manuokafoa 24/3/1985 -26
Anthony Mitchell 26/5/1989 - 22
Daniel Mortimer 12/6/1989 - 22

Then there are some Players who will be 27 like Ben Smith, and a few others.

There is a good mix. Yes we need to buy an Old head to guide some of these young blokes through, especially in the halves because we have let a few good halves slip through our fingers.

Also majority of the players getting older are long term clubmen. We are obviously showing loyalty and most if not all have deserved contract extensions, you don't get rid of players purely because of age.

No-one questioned age when we made the GF. Look at the Broncos, youth doesn't mean success.

Out of that next group I think Hayne is a champion, Horo is a gun, Mannah a future Kangaroo, Mitchell a promising rake, Lasalo also promising. Matt Keating and Maunuokafoa average, Humble has speed but not sure if he has much else, Morts is an absolute dud.

Are you confident you have the right mix to win a comp??

No doubt you will produce some more kids, you've signed Afu from us who can be explosive but does go missing.

I just think your CEO is lost...wouldn't trade him for ours even though we were sh*te this year.

I don't get this "we have an old team" argument.

* We have an "old" forward pack. Isn't that what you want? It's generally accepted props mature late and play better in their latter years. You'd like back-rowers with experience.

As it stands, we have a probably starting pack of:

8. Mannah
9. Keating
10. Poore
11. Hindmarsh (C)
12. Smith
13. Horo/Shackleton

Mannah, Keating, Poore and Horo are all 26 or under. Smith is 27. Shack I think is 27. Hindy is 30.

Our bench:

14. Mitchell
15. Shackleton/Horo
16. Moimoi
17. O'Hanlon/Lasalo/???

Mitchell, O'Hanlon and Lasalo are all under 25. Moimoi is on the wrong side of 30 but playing well, this year aside.

Then you add in young blokes liek Mitchell Allgood, Paki Afu, Tim Robinson, etc.

* A starting backline of:

1. Hayne
2. Burt
3. Reddy
4. Tahu
5. Grothe

OK, Grothe, Tahu and Burt are getting on. But Grothe is one of the most powerful wingers in the league - perhaps The Beast is the only guy who can beat him for pure power. Tahu ditto - he had a bad year this year but he is all class.

Burt is 29 next year (I think). He has shown he still has plenty of pace and a wily footballing brain.

Hayne and Reddy are youthful.

Then you add in Kenny Sio, Jacob Loko, Jason Webhe, etc. All youngsters under 24.

* Our halves, which is our biggest problem:

6. Mortimer/Humble
7. Robson/Murray

Of those, only Robson is over 25. Mortimer, Humble and Murray are all 23 or under.

So, my bottom line is that, whilst, our average age may be higher than the rest of the NRL, is that such a bad thing? Our pack mixes experience with youth; our backline, whilst getting old, has talented youngsters in the wings waiting to grab a chance; our halves are young and inexperienced, and we are seeking to remedy that by adding an experienced and possibly Grand Final-winning halfback.

In 2001 we had the lowest average age for our squad in the NRL. Didn't count for much in the end....

Out of all of these players; Hindy and Grothe will probably retire at the end of next season. Burt, Tahu and Moi Moi will likely leave the season after. Ditto Webb (though he hasn't even played for us yet!!).

So the Eels roster is set to go through a major regeneration in the next two years. The question is whether we handle that well or not.

We get a halfback that can steer a team around the park, we will give the comp a massive shake, 4 more wins this year and we are a top 4 side. We had a couple of heart breakers against the Knights and the Tigers, we also should have put the Sharks away both times, we also could have come back against the Rabbits. We are talking a few key points in a few games, the opportunity was there, these moments are the turning points and are the reasons we want a halfback.

No doubt you will produce some more kids, you've signed Afu from us who can be explosive but does go missing.

There are a lot of good young kids coming and I think next year will see them, still a year young show there wares in the NYC cup, and some will step into Wenty as well.

I just think your CEO is lost...wouldn't trade him for ours even though we were sh*te this year.

As to the CEO, well I have spoken to him, one on one about the football side, and how it success is paramount to the success of the club and to ween the club away from Pokie $$$$. He wants success, I am happy at the moment with how we are tracking, but I want a good halfback, regardless of their age to help out. They don't have to be a superstar, just capable of guiding the team around.
