Only St GI could sign a player not on anyone’s radar and then double down with a long winded media release trying to embody us with some enthusiasm for the decision.
”is keen & willing to play 1st grade” FMD

I love that phrase he used..."is WILLING to play 1st grade"...only if we're very nice to him. ..sounds like either of them aren't too sure if he's up to it

Mate, give me a break I’m an optimist, the glass is always half full you however see it as half empty.:joy::joy:

That’s probably because the glass was previously filled with Boag’s St. George, and I’ve taken a bite out of it already.

I have often said Millward’s job is not easy because of coach and I would love him to say exactly that.
I have also said that IMO he has his eyes on the coach’s job
Indeed sorting rosters is not easy and securing Pereira, Pearson, Ravalawa whilst extending Aitken really required some strength of resolve
Strength of resolve not to piss half of them off more likely lol

I'm afraid this was my opinion from the start and it has never changed despite the many media announcements of spin and numerous photo opps. The only two reasons for creating Millward's job outside of the head coach's supervision was:
  1. Because Mary was not up to recruiting management even though that was part of the head coaches duties; the recruitment/pathways came under the supervision of the head coach.
  2. Because a deal was done within the old boys club for this to be so. All the rest is just spin.
Millward has only delivered players that were easy signings, he does not have the skills to sell a compelling narrative to potential recruits. He is unable to attract highly desired players because he is not up to the job.

It was clear last season that we had enormous problems with our back 5. For season 2019 we knew Nightingale was leaving, Macdonald was released, Dufty is too small and our centres are very ordinary. Yet Millward chose to spend close to 2m on the 6 position and not properly address all of the back 5 positions. Our 2019 backline is even worse - not better - than 2018.

It's no good shifting blame to Mary for recruitment. The whole reason given by the Club for putting the job in Millward's hands was because Mary was not up to it - 'he should/needs to just concentrate on coaching'. Now we find that Millward is not up to it, the blame shifting spin is prevalent.

I say we need a cleanout. Let's get rid of this old boy policy and go to the market each time to hire the best candidate for the job.

I hope you’re not holding your breath, mate.

I thought that was a strange quote as well . Until I remembered Millwards reason for signing Allgood for another season.. I quote " He almost played first grade last season " . We are certainly in good hands .

Every player in the NRL has that feeling
Indeed pick me pick me please please pick me.
They could have at least come up with this as a presser:

"A warm welcome to the media and the fans and we have a great announcement for you today.
As the astute posters in the forum have deduced I have bided my time and waited to get the best possible player I can.
I am happy to announce we have signed a hard nosed and well credentialed 1st grade NRL player who will walk straight into our 1st grade team.
Everyone knows we have been doing it tough without JDB and at our club JDB is pretty much irreplaceable but we are happy to advise our new player goes a long, long, long way to filling that void.
Please join with me and welcome Patrick Kaufisi who whilst being a member of the Storm played a career inspiring 3 games and when you add that to his other 22 games 1st grade games he has played over the last 5 years, you will all agree this signing was well worth waiting for. The bonus is he is also good bloke, a quality human being who is not only keen but willing to play 1st grade.

Sorry folks just a minute

Yes, Paul what's that your saying
Felise, Basil, Felise
No Paul we signed Patrick remember Felise said "tell that bald headed muppet to go f**k himself."
Yes Basil I know that but don't tell everyone else that, just pretend its Felise and say he wants me to help him with his career.
Of course Paul just like I pretend your Craig and we are going to win a premiership.

Ok everyone sorry for that little interlude

As I was saying I signed the best player I could given the circumstances and the simple fact is we were bloody lucky to get Patrick as he was the only one that didn't recognise our voices and instantly hang up.
