Penalty Blitz

It is so simple

4 weeks in and clubs/fans/players should know by now what is going on

The fact that the penalties are still being blown for stuff that Todd n co have communicated to the clubs is not the refs fault.

Clubs/coaches/players need to get with the program. The blame is 100% on them.

Three simple tricks

1. Wait for the dummy half to step/pass before advancing in defence
2. Don’t hold down/wrestle in the ruck
3. Keep you mouth shut

That was about 30 of the 33 penalties last night

Really simple to fix the penalty count if players just followed the rules of the game
Yep spot on mate
It's so f**king simple

Follow the rules that players are taught & most can understand in under 7s.
These are adults ...grown men who can't seem to get their head around rules they have been supposed to be playing by for years.

If they're that dumb they can't understand to get back on side ....not hold players down etc then put them in reggies for a month ..till they can learn .

FFS ..the whingers out there are up the officials for doing what they are supposed to .
Even after they warned the clubs before the season started that they'd be cracking down on infringements .

The onus is 1000% on the coaches & players .

The players and refs will get it I'm sure, look how much has changed in 4 rounds
.....

Oh.

Looking forward to cracking 50 penalties by round 10

Better yet, the refs still f**k up. Loved the Luke Lewis “Sin bin”

My final say on this whole argument is.
Crowds have been going down, viewership has been going down.
And people on here think this penalty blitz is a great idea, while acting like the fans are all for it, to which they arent. *points at the game day thread* *points at twitter and facebook* While claiming anyone who isnt a fan can get f**ked.

Your suggestion that crowds and viewership are only just going down now is hilarious. The same was happening when teams like Sharks and Storm thought we were all subscribed to the WWE network. Nobody wants to watch Wrestlemania 8 times a week.

Youre the one who wants the game to be penalised into death, so you can get your precious 80s' which was shit viewing rugby league back.
The only geniuss are your lot who thinks doing this is going to give the game a resurgence in anything. except the dive bomb in crowds and viewers that its been doing the last few years.

You want the WWE. Scripted bullshit that entertains some people.

We have rules so follow them. Both refs and players will make mistakes so we will get some penalties but if the clubs wise up you'll have a proper 10 metres and quicker ruck allowing good attacking play. It's not happening because clubs are waiting for the refs to stop. As soon as one club works it out and starts dominating because they aren't conceding 10+ penalties the rest will follow.

We've said for years that the refs need to tidy up the ruck and it is happening. The problem is the culture of the game is to blame a ref/official for everything rather than a coach to man up and take the heat themselves. Half the coaches are waiting for the referees to stop doing it, but the smarter coaches will soon wise up an figure out they need to stop giving away 20 penalties a game. If you won't want to cop so many penalties then clean up your team. The problem here is there's only a handful on innovating coaches in the game, the other half just copy what is working for other teams. The players and coaches are responsible for the quality of the game, not the referees themselves, and that burden should finally be taken off them.

Very happy with the Sharks defensive effort last night to keep Melbourne try less.

These two teams were up for it last night and the Sharks physicality drew the errors from Melbourne.

It was nothing to do with the Bermuda Triangle or the number of penalties.

Fair enough and good points. But tell me, if the refs are still blowing 30+ penalties in round 24 and the finals, will you still be “enjoying it immensely”?

Coaches have said themselves they’ve invited referees to training sessions to fix the play the balls, yet the players still continuously get it wrong in the game somehow.

Then its time to get new players or rewrite the rules.

Which they're already doing more which seems to have no impact on the team missing the player....dont you think that's strange?
I don’t. I just see it a a battle to see who blinks first on this. Something a lot of fans have been calling for. I’m not falling for the ‘crowds diminishing, ratings falling’ etc.as a result of this(not saying your peddling that)because that was being said last year, the year before that and so on when the penalties were 6-3 and teams were getting away with murder. Time for a change. The way it is happening may not be to everyone’s taste but nothing ever is.

Just f**king boot Melbourne out of the comp

They’re the team that started this wrestling/cheating tactics in the first place

I haven’t even enjoyed rl since 2005

And nah...it’s definitely not because that’s when my team won the comp

I can assure you.

I think we can all agree, Fatty, Gould, Johns and all the others saying this crack down is not something the fans want is 100% incorrect.

The fans are clearly divided, some fans are very happy with it, others are very pissed off about it.

Point is the do NOT speak for ALL fans.

How the f**k did WWE come into this?
What a f**king ludicrous argument.
And this idea "the players will learn" Gee. They started this crackdown week 1 and look at whats happened so far. But keep hitting that dead horse. Just like doing this will bring people back to the game.
Notice how little penalties there were based around the ruck, so you can throw out the "oh they are doing it to increase the speed of the game" argument in the bin.

To be fair when these crackdowns happen every few years they last for about 5-6 weeks then they relax. The players and coaches are probably expecting it to blow over sooner or later. One group will buckle first, and I hope it's the players and coaches. Either way it should not be on the referees, their job is to pull up infractions in the ruck not to reconcile enforcing the rules and maintaining a good spectacle.

I loved Flanagan complaining about the high penalty count.

On NRL 360 last year, Luke Lewis admitted that they practiced what they called 'cheating' - moving up fast before the ball had been played, deliberately laying all over the ruck, playing the ball wrong etc. because they knew they would rarely get penalised for it and when they did it was better than conceding a try.

Flanagan literally coaches his team to cheat and is now complaining that they're getting penalised for it.

Yes, Crowds did peak the season before the storm kicked off wrestlemania. And then crowds started sliding about half a decade ago around the time every club had finally caught up with the strategy.

I'm certain letting the product further degrade won't see the already 10% drop in average crowds degrade that even more!

You want refs to manage the game rather than police the rules as they're suppose to.

Luke Lewis said on NRL 360 they are waiting for the refs to give up after 4 or 5 rounds so there is no willingness to learn. That attitude will change if the refs don't back down.

The team that gets 10+ in their favour will have all the field position and possession. Coaches will be on that quick once they know the crackdown is for real. Too much advantage not to.

Ok, I’ll contribute. The refs blowing the whistle isn’t their fault. Toddy wants the game to be played his way so they have to take it. Ergo, the players have to take it.

Despite most penalties from last nights game being correct does the fan want to see a game like last night again? I don’t.

Cam getting binned was the the greatest thing the game has seen for a long time. Imagine it, refs’ boss binned!

30 odd penalties is disgraceful

Anything else you want?

So you don’t want to see penalties, even though they were correct? Brilliant!
